Help me design my custom AAR project
« on: March 05, 2006 - 06:01:34 PM »
Car has been in body shop since December. AAR cuda hood still hasn't arrived, but should be here next week from yearone. I will get pics when it comes.
I have a 426 wedge in my 73 cuda with 17's front and 18's back. Car will be a light blue-silver metallic as well as hood.
I want to do something original with strobe stripes. Like at the end place CUDA 426, but in the 4 put in the word wedge vertically.
Also if the hood is same color as car maybe outline the hood scoop in solid black.
Any interesting ideas would be greatly appreciated since I'm getting ready for Carlisle.

Sounds great but your car is a custom and far from being a clone.
Sorry about being picky, but I like to correct this misuse of a word where I can before it gets real out of hand.

It sure is mate!  :ylsuper: :naughty: He must have been about 25 at that time. The good 'ole days!  :ylsuper:
I'm not too sure on ideas mate, basically up to you and your tastes.  :dunno:
You could get custom "AAR" type decals....someone had them done and got 440-SIXPAK instead of the "AAR" font.
Looked good, maybe they'll post in this thread or you could try dong a search, that would look nice.

Cheers,
Carl

I'll be interested to see what you come up with regards your AAR/custom concept.  My plans keep changing as problems crop up with components here and there (cuda hood problems the latest) so I have been thinking about adding an AAR hood but not doing the whole AAR clone thing.  Anyone have pics of a body-colour AAR hood (similar to the SickFish Cuda)?

I was thinking that the 70 Plymouth GTX hood stripes would look alright.  The centre strip is pretty wide so might enclose the AAR scoop.

I attached a file of a 426 with the word wedge going through it. Its a jpg. so it won't scale in size without getting jaggy. Let me know if you want the eps vector image. I can email it to you. Your graphics place should be able to play around with it if its something in the ball park of what your looking for. I cant post the eps file on the site.

In my opinion, any stripes that you put on the hood will take away from the awesome look of an AAR hood. Just leave it body color. You might have a decal shop alter a decal to replace the AAR decal at the end of the strobe stripe. Have them replace the AAR letters with something like 426. The reason that the AAR cuda looks so good is because they kept it simple. If you're going to use the hood and the stripe, you have to do the side exhaust or it looks like you just wimped out and never finished the car. I've seen so many cars where they were trying to get that AAR look and then just screwed it all up by not going that final step. My son is building an AAR type 70 cuda with the painted to match hood and a ghost strobe stripe. He's building a 340 6 pak with a keisler 5 speed, alterkation front k frame, side exhaust, independant rear suspension, leather interior, flaming river tilt column with the new tuff wheel. Should be nice when it's finished.
He's trying to one-up his mother's 73 cuda.

Do you have a pic or source to see what a ghost strobe stripe would look like?

I've done TA stripes with R/T in them instead of TA.  Also, 440 Six Pack in the fenders.  Even 426 Hemi instead of 340 six pack.

Also, just designed a 70 R/T style longitudinal stripe for a guy that says RALLYE in it instead of R/T - he's putting it on his 72...
