Anyone have pic handy of front caliper mounted?
« on: March 06, 2006 - 10:41:42 AM »
The two long bolts are what I am interested in...mine seem to stick out a bunch and I was wondering if I don't have then all the way in...though I tried and they seem to be bottomed out so to speak.

This is normal , the bolts have the room for th ecaliper to slide , there hould be approx 3/4 between the head & the caliper with the bolts tight

CP,

Do you mean 3/4"?  If so, mine stick out like 3".  Maybe I'll take a pic.

Here's one from the backside off my 70 Cuda.  It sounds to me like maybe you are missing the clip that goes around the bolt?

Hey thanks for the pic...mine look like that....what clip are you talking about?  What does it do?  How do they go on?  What do they look like?

Here's a better picture of the clip I was talking about and notice how it fills the space between the bolt and the caliper.
Thanks for the comments, looks like I need to put some Por15 on the caliper.  Everything else that could possible be is pretty much powder coated underneath.

70,

Are those pin type calipers?  I bought a set of loaded calipers and I didn't see those clips with it.  Just have these long u shape pieces that look like they stretch across the caliper but I didn't know if they are supposed to be used or just held the caliper togehter in shipment.

Know what you mean with that rust...I clear coated mine and they are still showing rust from just sitting in garage.

They are floating calipers that yes, use pins that I bought about 2-3 years ago at Autozone.

The clip you are talking about is an anti-rattle clip.

dw, I have had my '73 since '75, my calipers appear to be the same as Dan's '70 but mine do not have the clip that goes on the slider bolt. It is possible that they have been lost or tossed but I see no evidence and have no memory of them ever being there. Maybe on later models this part was not used?   :bigshades:

Not sure about this but I was told the clips are for the earlier years only, the 73 manual makes no mention of them, no sign of them in the pictures either, posted the pics in a post here somewhere, but forgot the name of the thread. Rich.

Thanks all....guess I'll should be putting those anti rattle clips in.  My calipers did not come with the pin clips so I guess I won't worry about it.

Hey Guys,
Chrysler calls those Brake Positioners. You really don't need them, but if you want that original look then your going to have a problem trying to find them. I stole a set off my buddy and will have to replace them when I find a set. As long as you have the rattle clip that goes on the other side of the caliper (outboard) you'll be O.K...The part # is 5518 Carlson Brake Parts it comes with the rattle clip and four rubber bushings. Have fun searching....Vin....................
