Fasteners for E-Body consoles?
« on: March 09, 2006 - 06:32:02 PM »
It seems like the folks who built my Cuda clone got every single screw wrong!  No two match; it seems like when they installed the interior they grabbed that coffee can of screws and went to it....

AND, the E-body fastener reference guide doesn't cover such mundane items as consoles..

AND, darn it, the interior screw kit I got doesn't have the screws for the following:

1 - Console shell - to - floor screws
2 - Console top plate - to - console shell screws
3 - U-Nuts for console top plate (mount into shell and recieve above screws)
4 - Console door hinge - to - console shell screws
5 - screws that hold the upper and lower halves of the console shell together

Anyone got a picture/description/exchange location of the offending screws?

Thanks geniuses! - Charlie

I don't know how "corrrect" you want your car but I needed to replace some rusty screws on the top plate. I found stainless screws that were identicle at a local Ace hardware store in a box called something like auto interior fasteners. They also have the clip on style retainers to scew thm into.
I also have a parts list from http://www.rtspecialties.net He runs this as a sideline and can be hard to reach. I have found serveral hard to find items there.

the console to mount screws are larger black 3/4 " long Phillips pan head possibly #8
the #2 are small chrome countersunk  head phillips
U nuts should be easy to get
 #4 same as # 5
#5 are small silver pan head phillips  possibly #6

Picture has original top console screw on left, it is chrome while my replacements are stainless. I believe they are #6 in size,(Ibelieve these are the same as the inner rear window trim) I bought some extra lengths that I did end up needing. The body of the console is held together by a slightly larger, probably #8, of the same style.  :smokin:

Thanks you guys!  As usual, one of the screws an U-nuts was right, and underneath the console and on the side I found the correct screws holding the shell to the base.  One more mystery solved!
