Dang i got bad ebay luck,4 speed OD questions

The tranny I bought on ebay the seller was flakey and tried to charge me more shipping than the auction stated after i paid,He just didnt get that after the auction ended,you cant change your terms.I am tired of deadbeat sellers,so I got my money back and am rethinking going with a 4 speed OD unit,any web pages or instructions on the OD swap?What has to be changed?

depending what belhousing you have you need to cut the front brg retainer needs to be cut down to 4.80 " to fit the belhousing , & the 3-4 shift rod needs to be bent Little to clear the crossmember

Well since i will be getting all the stuff to swap in(and bagging the original stuff) I dont have the beel housing or the tranny yet.Any suggestions on the right bellhousing?Will the truck bell housing work that the OD 4 speed came with if i can find one?thanks for all your help Chryco

the small block bell form a 318 OD truck is perfect for any small block E body & ther eis no reaso nto cut down the brg retainer doing it this way

I just picked up an NOS smallblock OD bellhousing for $40.00 for my Challenger. You should be able to find one pretty easily from a truck. The clutch fork is special for that bellhousing so when you find one grab it too.

doesn`t hurt to grab the flywheel  & linkages  & the driveshaft yolk as well

Thanks for all the help,I am sure a truck bellhousing should be easy to find.Does it matter which SB truck bellhousing to use?Or is there one for all 4 speeds trannies for the years Chryco stated?Does the OD really help on the freeway?thanks again

all trucks use the same belhousing ,
 the OD really helps on the highway , multipy yur rpm at any given speed by .71 & that will be the new RPM

Hey Chryco, I thought you had to invert the lever on the OD tranny?  I'm not sure if it was the 3-4 or the reverse.  Perhaps I'm wrong but I could swear I reversed something when I did the swap in the Charger years back.

Hey MOPARNUT - talk to Chryco. He rebuilds and sells OD A833s for reasonable prices. Don't know where you are cause shipping may  hurt you.

the 3/4 lever is inverted / down on the OD requiring a slight bend in the 3/4 shift rod to clear the cross member by the shifter
 I could ship one not sure what it would cost though

I'm in the shipping industry and could probably get you a reasonable rate if interested.  However the best rates would be if you dropped the freight off and picked it up instead of having it delivered.  As an example, I shipped an entire front end for someone on a pallet using economy service and it was $48.  Not too bad.  If interested jsut post up the zip codes or PM me and I can let you know.
Personally I wouldn't want to mess around with a junkyard tranny, a rebuilt one would be the way to go, considering the time involved to install/uninstall and repair if not up to par.
