Yes, If you see on on ebay that says 4-3/4" hole, that's the one. 4-3/4 would be 4.750.
Not the 4-1/4".

If planning on doing the swap from Auto to 4-spd OD, what all will fit if I find a small block truck with the motor/trans still in it. What should I get from the junker. Trans, bellhousing, shifting rods, will the shift mechanism work? Will the pistol grip bolt to the mechanism? Drive shaft? If I got the bellhousing and trans I wouldn't need to turn down the bearing retainer would I? I will need to grab the fly wheel and bolts? It would be nice to get everything that will work from one vehicle. Do these need to be rebuilt once found, or if the mileage is decent can it just be cleaned up and installed? Is there the Z bar on these trucks and are they the same? Is the tail shaft the correct lenght, or the shorter one that came on A/F bodies?

For instance, this transmission has the shifter rods, bellhousing and mechanism.

Is this what I need for a 4-spd hump, I have a console.

Great thread, thanks!
CP, I will still get the tranny from you when the time comes, just wondering if I can source all the extra parts needed at the U-pick, and what I need to buy elsewhere. Would like to do it this summer if I can do it affordable.

Let me interject here since i have received so much info from CHryco and Shelby, lol. The best way  is to use an original bell with a 4.80 hole and have the 833 front bearing retainer turned down to 4.80.You waill probably have to drill and tap the E body shifter mount on the rear of the trans(no big deal)The OD tranny is indentical in dimentions, you will have to swap the 3/4 gear lever like previously posted by Shelby. The shift levers are not long enuf for E body application since you move the shifter to the rear mounts, everything else will bolt up and your driveshaft length will probably have to be addressed when switching from an auto. For ease of finding future parts use or buy everything that an E body had,10.5 Flywheel,Z bar, clutch ect.

when you find a truck get the belhousing , flywheel ,release fork , shifter , rods ,
the shifter can be made to work although it is not completely correct , if you are swapping from a 904 you will need a different driveshaft & Yolk if you are swapping from a 727 the same driveshaft & yolk is used
if you get the OD bel the 5.2 brg retainer & hole will already match
the truck Z bar is different , but can be modified to work so get it too as well as the adjuster rod & the rod from the pedal to the Z bar ,it is also different but can be made to work
sometimes the trannys need to be rebuild , sometimes not , it just depends on milage & how it was treated in the truck

the hump is wrong
also the shift rods are too short to work in an E body

Don't forget that you have to get the aluminum shifter mount that bolts to the back of the trans for the Shifter. The B-Body shifter mount is different and will not bolt up. About $45.  From that ebay auction, The bellhousing is for a 6-cyl, so the only thing usable is the Trans and shifter assembly. (the pic does not show the entire tailshaft, it may only have a single front shifter mount on it, ask the seller if there are 2 mounts.) Another thing needed will be the bracket that welds on top or the driver's frame to hold the left z-bar pivot ball.  Everything can be purchased through Passon Performance if you can't find it on ebay.

A couple more things needed when converting an auto to 4speed.  1. the neutral start switch and wiring that goes from pedal to starter solenoid, backup light harness from firewall to trans. Dash reverse light by ashtray (unless converting back).  Wiring from YearOne or others. NEW hump from www.autobodyspecialt.com .  Don't mess with that rusty ebay hump, they always have to be repaired on the gas pedal side. Here's a pic from their site.

Excellent! I was looking for repop humps, Brewers has them as well. I forgot all about the reverse light on the dash. I guess it is a lot of work to do the swap. I guess i'll start gathering parts over the summer.

MoparNut, like you said, you have trouble calculating base ten.  Here's a quick lesson. We all know that 1/2" = .500 right?  to get .500 from a calculator, you would type 1 divided by 2 equals .500    So if I see a bellhousing with a 4-5/16 hole, I would keep the "4" as is, then 5 divided by 16 equals .312, so that Hole is 4.312 inches.   Too far away from that 4.80 that we need.  Find another bellhousing. Might be listed as 4-3/4 , like that earlier post. 3 divided by 4 = .75   so 4.75
Rob    (I'm not too good at math either without a calculator)
