the OD 833 uses the larger hemi brgs in all applications [23] spline , the Only True Hemi OD is a new creation made by Passon performance

Kewl didnt know that the 4-od had the larger hemi bearings,so it would stand to reason its stronger than the traditional 833 23 spline right?

yes & no
suing the bigger brgs helps , but there were other factors in the Hemi box strength , the input shaft was 3/16" larger in diameter which adds a lot of strength , Also the pitch of the gears was different increasing strength & in later years Mopar deleted splines from the inner syncro hubs weakening them , not that I have seen one fail or that I can understand why they would do this seeing as they were already making full spline hubs  :pullinghair:

the 3/4 lever is inverted / down on the OD requiring a slight bend in the 3/4 shift rod to clear the cross member by the shifter

What do you mean by inverting the 3/4 lever?thanks

The OD 833 still uses 4th (1:1) but it is now in the 3rd gear shifter position.  Chrysler changed the 3rd gear gear to be the overdrive gear inside the tranny, so you had to flip the side cover shifter linkage lever down (instead of up) to get your shifter gears back to the correct order.  If you didn't, you would be shifting 1-2-4-3 when using the standard "H" pattern.

Sure,  Instead of mounting like this:  PIC1,
You flip over the 3-4 lever when bolting it on like: PIC2
Then adjust the lengths to fit into the shifter (while it's in the neutral "centered" position)

I sometimes have to bend the linkage a little bit to keep things from hitting.
You might have to turn the lever over so the arms are centered.
You'll see what I mean when you do it.

Moparnut,

The casting number on the smallblock OD bellhousing is 202507 and it is found on the back face where the tranny bolts up. Good luck in your search.

Glad to help guys!

So Moparnut, Since you already have a 23 spline 833, 4sp car, all you need to put one of these in:
1. The trans. (833 OD with B-E body type tailshaft) (from a truck) I paid $75 for one at a swap meet.
2. Take the front bearing retainer off (4bolts) and have a machine shop turn down the outside edge to 4.80" (about$20), to fit the bellhousing hole.
3. Pull the old 833,move the shifter mount over, then install the 833-OD in. Mount shifter and linkage.
4.Flip the 3/4 lever like in the pics and slightly bend the 3/4 linkage where it might hit the trans cross-member.
5. Drive.
