Can someone identify this mopar dual snorkel air cleaner?
« on: March 11, 2006 - 06:07:37 PM »
Thought this was a viable option for my 383 Cuda (considering my chances of getting the right one are slim) but missed out on the Ebay auction.  Can anyone identify the year, model vehicle it is from so I can keep an eye out for another one.  This is how the vendoe described it: "You are bidding on a dual snorkel air cleaner for a Mopar. It is for a standard 5" 4bbl carb. I believe this was off of a van (360c.i, 440c.i.) because the snorkels are closer together to fit under the engine cover."

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Cheers, Mark.

Good reference link but unfortunately doesn't have this particular intake listed.

Robb, Just in case you check back here - would this air cleaner fit a 383 without aircon.  I'm guessing the distributor might also get in the way?

Do you have a part number from the air cleaner base? I am unsure if the top is original to the base. I don't recall dual snorkel 360s, although I could be wrong. I do however have a 440 dual snorkel that I could cross reference the part number for. I believe it came off a New Yorker of 74-77 vintage.

One thing to notice is that there are no warm-air flaps on the snorkels.   Later emissions cars should have stovepipes of some kind for warm air starting.

If you compare this AC to a BB AC, you can tell that the snorkels are closer together on this one.

clearing the distributor depends on the height of your carb (spacers, intakes, etc) relative to the top of the plug wires

Its not difficult to find a right aircleaner for your Cuda, you just gotta keep watching ebay.  Theyre on there.

Starting to show my lack of engine smarts once we get into the warm air functionality of the air cleaner (sort of know what it does but don't know how it will interact with the planned build.  Engine will be running EFI and TTI extractors so as far as I understand, nothing for the warm-air flaps etc to connect to?  Given this, an air cleaner like this seems to be a 'neat' representation of the correct one, especially if I give it a black wrinkle treatment and fit the right pie tin.  I was also toying with the idea of clocking one of the snorkels to the correct position by cutting/re-welding and a bit of clean-up, might not work though?  Thoughts???

There are plenty of single snorks around, if your gonna be choppin anyway take two singles to make one dual snork & you wont have a hole to fill.  :bigshades:

i once had a 70 with a 383 4bll and a 71 rt 383hp and they both had that style air cleaner. yours looks like someone may have removed the cans, vacum lines and heat stove provision.

nah, its from the factory like that.

I bought and traded one identical to it that had an original pie tin on it (i think it was a 340).  I liked it cause it looked smoother than the standard ebody dual snorkle, but it just didnt fit around my A/C compressor.  I may still have the pic on my server, from when I sold it on ebay.
