Vanishing Point
« on: February 23, 2003 - 02:58:38 PM »
 :) :o 8) Hello All,
After hearing about the movie "Vanishing Point" from a few people who are Challenger fans, I bought the movie on DVD from someone in England. I know zone 2 DVD's aren't supposed to be played here, but I have a DVD player that can play a DVD from any zone. Not exactly legal I guess. Anyway, the movie is a typical short on plot, long on car chase film. I had tingles going up my spine seeing a 70 Challenger star in a film. I also thought it was neat seeing some old Mopar cop cars chasing it. Has anyone else seen this 1971 film? Any opinions?

Seen it many times , the plot is thin but the chases are too cool, hard to belive that even with the Challs being brand new & easily replaced they still decided to distroy a Camaro instead at the end !!

Hey Mike try and track down a copy of the remake(FOX made for TV)  Not only does it star a white 70 challenger but also a yellow road runner.

Not to mention the awesome hed to head dual between the White(good guys) Challenger and a black(bad guys-cops) Charger. ;D

I have a copy on tape.....not great quality but fun to watch.

It stars Viggo M.(Kawalsli) and Jason Prestley(the voice)

Fox didn't do much advertising for this movie so if you got lucky you may have caught it(1996).  Ithink we all need to write to fox and inform them that there are plenty of mopar fans out there who would love to see this movie.

Oh and yae it too is a little short on plot ...but who cares it is a DODGE movie.

Have seen both versions although haven't seen the original for years It stays in my memory because it was the 1st time I had ever seen a Challenger, I never forgot and now I have my own. I'm glad they didn't destroy a Challenger 'cause it may have left one more to survive.

Back when FOX remade the movie, they came out with the original Vanishing Point for a period of time... my dad managed to pick up a copy of it on VHS for $15 something USD.... he was always telling me stories about it, and once I saw, I almost had to change my pants...   :o :o ;D We also taped the FOX remake one when it came on...

I saw both; cool cars but both are pretty corny if you look beyond the stars of the movie.

I found a website a while back of some guy who took pictures of them prepping the Camero for the ramming into the tractors... I'll have to look to see if I've still got the pics saved or not... I hope I do! I do know that they were very careful when mounting the cameras on the Challenger... they used blankets and what not... they actually ran the car past the point where the tractors were going to be, then edited the Camero into the film... pretty cool idea... just thought I'd share this tho...

Update:
I searched both of my computers and couldn't find the pictures that I knew I had.... BUT.... I did find the website that they are on!! It's got a great story that goes with them... enjoy!!  ;D ;D
