Pinks
« on: March 15, 2006 - 11:35:22 AM »
Has anyone else seen this?  I receive Car Craft in the mail (I want Mopar Muscle), and they had an advertisement on SpeedTV for a show called Pinks, in which ordinary guys who build up their cars drag race the quarter mile for the best 3 out of 5.  Unlike other realism shows, in which contests can't lose anything, every car in Pinks is racing for pink slips!  I don't get SpeedTV, but went to their site and watched a '68 Camaro beat a '72 Nova with a sandbagging strategy.  It was pretty neat.  I wasn't sure if this was new or old news, but wanted to pass it along.  Cheers.

I've watched the show a few times, my take is that since they agree to car lengths and race at the drop of hands, rather than a light, it's not too interesting.  Seems to me the best sandbagger and negotiator comes out the winner.

Bah !

Thanks for the tip OldSchool, I missed that thread.

If it were my car on the line, I'd want a tree, etc., but then again, if it were my car on the line I'd lose, and that's talking about a bracket race.  It seems like they simulate street racing pretty well to me (not that I know that much), but to the best of my knowledge, when two guys go head to head agreeing on pink slips, it's one race (not 3), and even up (no car negotiated lengths).  My critique is I'd like to see one deciding run, and for the audience at home, I'd like them to post the stats of each car as well as the quarter-mile times.

I'm amazed about the guy with the corvette refusing to take car lengths.  I respect that with everything I have, but if it were my little Cuda, I couldn't turn it down...or run the risk of losing it in the first place!  Oh well, I still like the show.  Watching people lose their cars to sandbaggers isn't the best, but knowing how many hours of work and love and care go into fixing up a car from scratch, my heart bleeds every time I see a guy hand over a car, so I've gotta watch, unless they don't show any MOPAR's.
