Rear wheel offset 74 cuda
« on: March 17, 2006 - 07:32:47 PM »
Just new here so be patient with me....I'm ready to purchase rear wheels and gums for my 360 cuda. I have installed the e-body offset kit with A body springs and moved the seats in a bit. Nice and centered.  I see rally rims are in 8 and 10 inch sizes with  5 inch BS on the 10 incher. Will the 10's sit inside my rear fender lips so I can keep this puppy low to the ground?  I hate rubber outside the wells. Any help appreciated.....Thanks from north of Toronto....

Mine has the B-rear in it with 10 inch wheels 5 inch backspace and 295/50 tires. There is no work done to the rear quarters at all
If I wanted to lower it I would have to trim the wheelwell on the driver side a bit for safety but it doesn't rub the way it sits right now.
If you could get 5 1/4 inch backset on 10 inch wheels it would probably be perfect.

Here is my car with 8-1/2" rear centerlines with a 5" backspacing.   Here it is again with the new Ralleys, 8x15 Rears with a 4.5" backspacing, 7x15 fronts with a 4" backspacing.  Both have 275x60x15 BFG RadialT/As and 235/70/15s on the front. The car is not jacked up at all.  If I was to get the 10" ralleys, get the 5-1/2" backspacing with the same tire. Only use the 5" backspacing if you put the early B-Body 8+3/4 in it with offset shackles and front spring mounts. The wrong backspacing will get the tires to eat up the bottoms of your quarter panels, it'll be jacked up with longer shackles or air shocks, and you can't speed around corners like I do. If you put a standard 15x7 up front, with the standard 3-5/16" backspacing, your front tires will rub the fenders, when you go around turns and hit bumps at the same time. (like turning into a driveway with a street curb).

I like the way the tires fit inside the fenderwells including at the top.  Is that with an E-Body 8 3/4" axle?
Any photos taken from the rear?

Air shocks???   Long shackles???  Your not referring to my car are you?  What are the tops of quarter panels?

360cuda,  I know your car is high due to the Superstock type springs with more arch than standard, so I'm not talking about yours. But you probably put on long shocks right?  Mine came with the 6 leaf springs and still sits like this low. My rear end is a stock e-body 8-3/4 width.

I do have an EARLY B-BODY (2" shorter at the pads and overall width) to put in later. That should allow the same tire to look wider with a 10" wheel.

I'll get some pics from the rear and tire in the well, when the weather gets better and I get it out again.

That's cool

I didn't realize yours had the stock 8 3/4 in it. So the rake in yours is acheived by the taller tire?  Looks good!!

I am not real clear on figuring tire diameter, but aren't your front and rear tires pretty much the same height?  Are the rears about 10" wide at the tread?
It looks good that way, with the rear tires tucked inside as though it were tubbed.  :cooldancing:

I use my "secret" tire calculator and my 235/60/15 fronts are 26.10" diameter,  section Width is 9.5", tread width is 7.6"
My 275/60/15 rears are 28.0" diameter, 11.0 section width, and 8.9" tread width.  The smaller diameter in the fronts is what gives the slight rake to the front.
The E-Body always had the tubbed look with some of the biggest wheel houses of the era, you just have to order the wheels after a lot of carefull measuring. So my rears are only 9" touching the ground, but look 11" wide from behind. They will look wider with a 9" wheel.

BTW,  I put a link to my "SECRET TIRE CALCULATOR" below.  It helps when I have to caculate for different speedometer gears to correct my speedometer speed

As a matter of interest, what speedo gear drive do you use with the 275/60/15 rears, as I`m about to fit some?
