Undoing the linkage on the 4 speed[73 Cuda]and it looks like you just get the cotter pins out ,but damned if i can get at them .Can i just undo the nuts in the plates instead?

I guess another way might be to undo the shifter lever and remove it and leave the linkage connected at the trans?

It is easier to just take the small plates off by taking the retaining nuts off.  Just pay attention to how they came off, I think 2 mount "up" and the reverse "down" perhaps?  No, just looked at a picture on my computer, all the tabs go up, think it is my Bird that had the reverse one down.

 :iagree:
all lever are up & just remove the nuts & levers
BTW Hurst still makes the correct spring clips to use instead of the cotter pins in a shift repair kit

Actually, after looking closer at this, can i just unbolt the shifter handle, and pull the motor and trans out leaving all linkages connected?Just undo speedo, backup light .And then what about clutch linkage? Thanks for your help.

no , the shift rods go between the floor & crossmember & need to be removed to drop the trans
undo the 7/8" nut behind the rubber shield in the left inner wheelwell & lift up out of the brket on the frame to remove the clutck linkage assuming you are needing to remove the belhousing , if not just back off the adjuster to the clutch fork & remove the one linkage piece

okay, was undoing things in the engine bay ,now back to this.I have undone the rods at the front of the trans.Looking at a diagram in a restoration guide,it looks like i can now unbolt the shifter mechanism from the trans and remove it with rods attached,or undo rods at the rear also ,remove all rods and then remove shifter mech.I appreciate your help and patience with what must seem like pretty basic stuff.

yes you cvan undo the 2 bolts holding the shifter mech to the trans & remove the shifter & rods in 1 assembly , you should remove the pistol grip handle  from the top of the shifter first though
