Roof Frame Sealant?? RE: Reskinning a roof
« on: March 19, 2006 - 08:17:02 PM »
Hey guys, you might remember from a previous thread that I am reskinning the roof on my cuda.  Not much has happened lately but I have a quick question so that I can get started reattaching the new skin.  On the cross bar across the middle of the roof (and maybe on other spots on the roof frame) was a rubbery substance (somewhat like caulking).  My guess is that this stuff is to stop the roof from vibrating against the frame and to keep things tight and quiet.  Anyway, if you know what it is that I am talking about do you know where you can buy this stuff or somehting like it that would work and also how much of it should be reapplied and where???  Thanks, a lot, Tyler

It sounds like the same stuff that attaches the hood skin to the bracing.  They used glue instead of welding to eliminate the spot welds and it creates a much stronger structure than just the brace or roof alone could. The body shop guy I was using used a two-part epoxy.  I would assume any body supply store would have it.

Tyler, I'm pretty sure the stuff you're talking about is just a seam sealant Chrysler Corp. used on the seams that weren't always exposed to the elements. (where instead of this putty they used a harder sealer as found on the floor pans, etc.)  I believe you can buy this caulking through Easwood Company.  Their site is www.eastwoodco.com

Here's what I was able to find for you...It's a similar thing to what I remember cleaning off my roof, but it's a different color. :misbehaving:
