« on: March 23, 2006 - 11:58:08 PM »
Can anyone tell me why I have radiator fluid dripping off the spark plugs?  Both sides!

It looks like the header bolts are the culprit. The exhaust bolts go into the waterjackets and sometimes leak, reseal them and you should be fine.

  :iagree:

Either the bolts are loose, or someone didn't put sealant on them when they installed the headers.

Hey Mike, I have to replace the header gaskets on mine and I didn't even think about sealant.  Do you (or anyone else) know what sealant should be used.  I'd rather have the opinion of someone here on this board who is familiar with our type cars.

UGH,
I'll get back to you later with what I used. Right now all I can tell you is it's a white sealant. Kind of like Elmer's glue. It comes in a small white tube with red lettering. That should narrow it.  Seriously, I'll get back to you in a few hours.

ROMI,
Here's what I used. The small Permatex tube I bought at AutoZone. It's more than you'll need. The ARP sealant, I believe I bought from Summit, or Year One. Just be sure what you use says "thread sealant".

Yes! ... and well there are still several other items I must fix....

~Blinkers don't work.
~The radiator is leaking too.
~Transmision fluid or Power steering fluid is also leaking.
~Front left light bulb needs replaced
~no spare wheel (gotta find one now)
~No heat or even the plumbing for it
~speedo needs to be calibrated (11mph off at 50mph)
~Altenator is working, but makes noise so it will be replaed (Scott sent an extra one)
~Radio doesn't work
~No SEAT BELTS! (if anyone has an extra set I would VERY much like to buy them!)

and one thing that must be fixed right away.  The car won't stay running... I think it's just a simple carb adjustment. :working:

Overall I'm happy with the car.  It just needs some time & money put in to it.  In hindsight with what it needs I don't think I buy it again, but it's mine now and I'll fix all the little issues and LOVE it!  You guys are more valuable than a you can imagine.  If this site ever needs some help with funding, please let me know.  This is the best site on the web!

Cody,  I forgot to tell you when I was on the phone Monday:
Drain the coolant a little so the level is below the header bolts.
Pull out a leaking header bolt.
Spray the bolt and head threads with brake cleaner, allow to dry, coat with a little hi-temp silicone sealer, thread bolt back in.
Move to the next bolt.
No more leaks.
