Should I wax my chrome?

  :dunno:I was just looking at the new chrome job on tropicats bumpers and must say they look VERY nice! I was wondering if anyone has ever heard not to wax chrome? I've done it for years myself but always wondered.

We had a guest speaker at our club that did chroming for a living. He said it was a must to put some type of wax on the chrome it will provide protection. He showed us two pieces one that had been waxed and one that wasn't. The one that was waxed was something like twenty five years old and still looked new, of course it had never been exposed to the elements. The unwaxed was pitting. So I would say yes

It really depends, wax now days you can use on about anything.  polsihes and sealers will get the same results.

watched a show recently where the guest was a top mucky muck from turtle wax.
He said to never wax chrome..that it needs to breath. Just polish.
Coming from a guy that SELLS wax, it's probably true.

Thats an interesting question and I really have no opinion whether you should wax them or not.  I personally don't wax my bumpers, I just use polish.      This question would of made a good poll.

Okay so just a chrome polish, turtle wax probably sells a polish also

  I dissagree with what he said. Trapping moiture? I mean if the chrome is dry to begin with. Any way you can keep the elements off of a something that tends to oxidize IMHO and experience will protect it. Maybe regular ole car wax isn't the best thing in the world to protect chrome. The Zymol site said not to use on chrome but plenty of others are recomending their products for this.   now can we just get along?

by the way..the fact is....the chrome is never "dry".
All air has moisture in it and this is the moisture that gets sealed in the pourous surface.
 Makes sense to me.
Funny a top notch company like Zymol says not to wax chrome...

Being a avid boater also I use a product called Never Dull.  It works great for stainless steel rails and I also use it on my bumpers, polished aluminum valve covers and silver jet-hot coated ceramic headers.  It is a sort of looks like wool and you just use small wads of it and wipe.  Great stuff and it works well.
