That looks great! Not trying to hyjack this thread but since it's on the subject. Anyone have any experience on this same subject for a B body? They sure look to have a lot of room but don't know exactly what will fit for sure. I'd like to put a set of MT DOT slicks on it but not sure what size I can stuff under there. Here's a picture of the BFG 295/50/15's. The taller and wider the better. I'd be willing to go to the offset hangers if needed.
Thanks P6P
look in the April 2006 issue of Mopar action on page 22 they stuffed some GoodYear F1 275/55/17's (these are a SUV tire, but they look like a car tire) on the back of a Roadrunner I didin't see the rim offset or size, but I bet you could e mail them to find out. The car looks sick!!!!

Here is a photo of a Charger (the one I went to buy last year) 315/60's no relo kits. Looked REAL good. The B-Bodies look dumb IMO with anything less than 265's in the rear...makes them look very ar$e heavy with small tyres.

Sorry I don't have any better photos.

Thanks Carl, that does look sweet.   With no mods that's a pretty good size tire. Wonder what the tread width is? With a relo kit, I could still go a little bigger.

True, they looked monstrous in person.....almost like M/T slicks. lol  :sly:
But, bigger tyre isn't always better.....more hp to move them.

Sublime your car sits pretty low so you'd probably be better off using the 275/60/15's But just to compare, here's what 295/50/15's look like on a 15x8.5 rim, I had to use spacers because I couldn't get the right offset for the rims I had, but it works out to a 4.5 offset and of course my rim is 1/2 wider. The inner tire bulge is 1/2" away from the leafspring, Only the drivers side just barely, smudges the sidewall when I hit a big bump,no cut tire gashing, just a mark that looks like someone rubbed a pencil eraser on it. Once I roll the inner lip it will clear fine. I'm also going to put in a B body rearend and then stuff some 15x10's under it.

Rob, That looks really good. I had 8.5s on my Challenger with a 5" backspace that fit really well and low. What thickness spacer did you have to put on those back wheels? If you just use the offset rear shackles and weld yourself up some 1" offset front perches you can get rid of those spacers then nothing will rub. I also plan on the 10" wheels and already have the ealy B-body 8-3/4, but it'll have to wait now because I'm rebuilding 2 more e-bodies and funds are very lowwwwwwww.  Did I say low.. :roflsmiley:

They come close but remember, the side wall never bulges on the portion closes to the spring, so it will never rub.

That is about as close as I would want to go, I know that these bodies almost never sit "square" over the axles anyway.  What size slicks do those rear tires equate to?  We plan on some E.T. racing.  :burnout:

Spacers have been mentioned, but I don't think the NHRA allows those, am I right?    :dunno

Rob

My Centerlines had a backspace of 4 7/8 and it was 1/16th(passenger side) to 3/16th(drivers side) away from the leafspring with the BFG 295/50/15's so I used 7/16th spacers, 3" long wheel studs and open end lugnuts. If I could of got the Centerline Autodrags in 4.5 backspace I wouldn't of needed the spacers.
Yea I've already got a B body 8-3/4 sitting in my garage, I just need the spring relocation kit and some a body springs.

Spacers have been mentioned, but I don't think the NHRA allows those, am I right?    :dunno

 :working:
You wont need spacers if your rims have a 4"-4.5" backspace, I just happened to pick the one style of rims that didn't make them  :banghead:
I don't think NHRA allows them, even though with 3" long wheel studs and open end lugnuts I'd probably sneak past tech.  :dunno:

On my old 68 Charger I had N50x15's and 15x10 rims, with superstock springs in the stock location. I don't remember the offset but it looked BAD#$$ from the back!

Evil72,
If you weld up some front spring hangers, you won't need the a-body springs.  Get yourself another set of front hangers and weld your old set to them exactly 1" to the inside.  That way you get to keep the same e-body springs, drop your b-body rear end right on top without welding, and get an inch extra on each side. Those A-body super stock springs are too stiff. You don't need the b-body rear end if you move the spring mount on the axle and still get the extra 1" clearance. The ONLY REASON TO USE AN EARLY B-BODY REAR END is to fit a wheel that has less back spacing on it. Such as wanting a deep dish type look. Another good reason is that you might not want to do any welding on the axle.
the stock 8-3/4 width is fine if you are happy with your fender side clearance and want to move your tire closer to the frame rail. (such as more backspacing) Ralley wheels don't want that look. With only 7" trim rings available the wheels need a deeper back space, to reflect the pattern.

So IMO, the best setup:  1" offset welded front hangers, 1" offset rear hangers, E-body springs, E-body read end with perches moved in 1", 9" ralleys (they don't make them) with a 3.5 front spacing and a 5.5 backspacing, and wide-ass tires like Evil72's 295/50/15.   VINTAGE VINTIQUES SAYS THAT THEIR 10" RALLEYS FIT WITHOUT MODS, but I don't have a set to trial fit. Anybody here have those here?

I've seen articles on the do it yourself front hanger welding and it holds up. (depends on your welding skills) For everyone trying this trick, if you cant weld, please have someone that can, weld it for you. You don't want the front of your leaf spring EVER falling out.

I checked the tires they are infact 275/60/15 on 15x8's the quaterpanels are not trimmed at all due to the past owners awful bodywork.  Thanks for all the info it will be very helpful, once i get em on there i'll take some pics and post them.
