    I've been lookin for some time to find a 71 340 air cleaner, you know, the black wrinkle finish one with NO snorkles.  They're dosen't seem to be too many around and when you do find one they want to gouge you for it.... like this

    Man thats expensive. A 6-pack air cleaner isn't much more then that. What cars did they come on? Was the snorkel style aircleaner an option?

    This particular one was on 70/71 A and E bodies with 340s.
    Pie tins are readily available for less than $50 but not the black wrinkle non-silenced bodies

    an Idea!

    get a plain smooth one, take it to a bed liner place.  the texture of the bed liner is based on the amount of grit they put into the lines... some liners are glossy some dull, some rubber like some sandpaper line...

    check out the back of a few trucks get the name of the people that do the finish you like, and see if they will put just the right amout of grit in...

    tell them you are trying to build an old mussle car, they might shoot it for free, or little of nothing (especialy if they are getting ready to do a bed.

    of you can go to the auto parts and get your own kit and spray it yourself. ....

    might work out to be a fair comp...

    course I been told I was smokin krak once already this morn. :22yikes:

    I'm a little concerned about the crack thing bud.... I'm watching a few dual snorkles now, I'll probably snag one of them, rip the snorkles off and paint it.  Here's the good one Tree Frog, they sell a Black Wrinkle paint in a spray can.  Makes it pretty easy.  The 71 dual snorkles have the correct inside baffles and without the snorkles, looks just like the one I'm trying to find.  Thanks for the help Frog, now put the pipe away.

    The 70 BB dual snorkel that is shown is incorrect, so is the crankcase breather.  It is really unfortunate with the price of the air cleaners that reference pictures shown are wrong.  I guess it doesn't matter to the poster if you waste your money on the wrong part.

    Hey Tree Frog, the wrinkle black paint is actually easy to do and you can pick a spray can of it up from places like O'Reilly (and it's called wrinkle black).  I used it both on my air-cleaner housing and my non ralley dash of my 70 Cuda.
