Curious 1970 Challenger 1973 Challenger
« on: March 26, 2006 - 04:28:37 PM »
Just curious, will a 1970 challenger grill and tail light assembly fit on the 1973 Challenger without difficulties?  Thanks in advance for your reply.

I know that the front fenders are specific to 70-71 and 72-74 models.  The headlights bolt to the fenders on the early models, and the front header piece holds the headlights on  the later models.  I don't know for sure if the later fenders could be adapted or not.  I thought about this for a while, but mainly price put the kabosh on that!

Thanks for your response.  The reason I asked is because I was on e-bay today and saw a "1970 Hemi recreation"  The car was a JH23G... car which I took to be a 73 Challenger 318.  I did npt think that the JH23G was a code used for the 1970 Challenger.  Am I wrong?  Be that as it may, the car was very nice.

To put a 70 grill on a 73, I would think you would have to swap front fenders too to make it easier. To put 70 tail lights on, you would have to do some hacking on your tail panel. I think this would be alot of work.  :2cents:

JH23G, is just a stock Challenger (JH) hardtop (23)  G (318).  It is the 6th number that tells you the year.  0 for 1970, 3 for 1973.

I have a couple of friends here that sell just the rear panel out of rust buckets to convert them to another year.   Sometimes get 1200 for a 70 Chall tail section.  Here is a link below to a "73 Cuda being converted to a "71 Hemi-Cuda!

Very nicely done.  You'll see how they did the front, rear, and marker lights.
