Just got home from some drag racin. my 318 pulled a 14.3

Ended up making three passes tonight due to how many cars were there. I was only allowed to run my radials because its a 'street night' or w/e so i cudant run my mickey t's 

anyyway. So in its full street trim, as i drive it daily, first run was a 14.6 - spun a lot, second run they didnt record it or something...so i got no time , and the last run i got a best of 14.3 @ 95mph outta the ol 318. I'm not crazy about that number, but we've gotta couple things we can still tinker with.

She ran hard tonight  318 put out some decent numbers, but im stickin to my guns saying i can get a 13sec slip. ive been saying that since i built the motor, and im not toooooooooo far away.

Very impressive!!!   Anyone who has never been to the track will always think their car will run 12s, not the case at all.

Get that car to hook and you'll slice off some 1/10ths. Haven't raced at the track in a couple years, miss the feeling.

I agree!!

The track or even a dyno is a VERY humbeling place.
Very good time I think, 13 seconds is not far, that's for sure.

That is a great # for a 318. Im not sure my 340 would get that. Nice job.

Goody, thats pretty good for what i remember to be a mildly modded 318. What rear gear are you running? 13's are just a bit away, I think with tinkering with it, you'll get it.

thanks for all the comments guys  it was as i drive it daily. They wouldnt lemme run my slicks at 'street night' because they arent street legal  im aquiring some drag radials for my next outing. I have a few things up my sleeve to mess with

Not bad at all for a 318 Goody!  I'm sure you'll be able to tap into the 13 second range the next time out, assuming you'll be able to use the slicks.

sure hope so, if not on the slicks a local buddy is giving me some hardly used 275/60/15 bfg drag radials that should do the trick  next race is the 26th i believe. should have the d/rs, line lock in so i can get some decent heat, and some tuning...hopefully get it where i want it

 Do you have your engine, stall, gear and suspension specs posted on here somewhere, maybe one of us can give ya a few more ideas on getting even better times.

Some stickies and some tuning might get you a 13,pretty stout for a 318 e-body.I`ve been trying to get a 12 out of my 340 for the last few years with no luck,stuck in the low-mid 13`s.

Not "too" bad for a 318. I've been seeing the 265HEMI /6 cars from Aussie lately posting 14.3 second 1/4's with not too many mods. I would have thought a 318 with those mods would have run 13's with a little more ease.

 Here's a cheap trick I found on another site, I haven't tried it out yet, but worth a try
 install a field cutout switch to turn off alternator when making pass. worth 1 mph and .08. Easy..break the green wire and loop wire to 3 amp. switch under dash. burn out and pre-stage, then turn off alternator make pass, flip on at lights and full charge before pits. Makes just about one car length in quarter.

Very respectible! The 340-6 was road tested at 14 seconds at 100 MPH when new, I bet you can hit that with good traction.
