That's sweet Choppintime, what was that car originally?
Mine was an ugly cream color with black vinyl top, now that I am positive it's numbers matching, it still wouldn't have much value, a 70 2 dr hdtp Satellite 383 auto air doesn't do anything for a collector but now, Plumcrazy 500 6Pak stroker, 6pak fiberglass hood, monster meats, sure grip, Gear Vendors OD, decked out street machine, now that's a different story. May not be a collector but now it's what I like. Some should be left original unless it's an ugly beast like mine or that same combo on an e body. Who knows though, there may be someone who wants those unusually ugly colors. My appoligies for anyone with that combo, whatever you like is fine by me!  My Challenger was an original Plum car but only a 318 car but still would have pulled down more than a cream with white top and brown interior. JMO and  :2cents:

Here's before   :puke:

And after or soon to be on the rest of the car

...the original paint color will always be the best way to go....an incorrect color will depreciate the car by the amount it costs  to return it to the stock color....

stock colors...there is a wide difference in the color of a car and its $$$ value...pink/black/plum/red will always bring more than tan/bronze/dark greens etc etc....I have seen cases where a repaint might not hurt the cars value if the original color was really ugly....but originality is where the $$$ are today...

...I once owned a Challenger T/A that was originally tan with green interior and a green vinyl top....someone along the line had painted it P.Pink, removed the vinyl top  and dyed the interior black.....a definate improvement in my eyes...wonder what it looks like today  :clueless:

For me, stock colors are the way to go. If the car is not the color you want, move on to the next car that is your color. There is bound to be one somewhere. Another issue I am wrestling with for mine is what type of paint to use. Originally it came with Acrylic Enamel. I don't think I want to deviate from that and use basecoat clearcoat as modern day cars. I want my car to be as stock as possible without turning it into som museum piece.

Mine is a numbers matching car...but only a 318.......My color is the 96 Viper red.  It is close to the original.. but the orangish red didn't do it for me.  Plus I was 17 years old when I painted it and didn't care about factory colors.  I can always paint it later when I clone it into a Hemi cuda!  :money: LOL

If it is a numbers car, it would hurt the value.

If it's a non numbers car and it is painted a high impact, black or cool custom color ( likr Red & Rev's ) the value goes up.

if it is a non numbers car and it is painted poorly or some dorkey color, it hurts the value.

If it's painted like Choppintime's it's a toss up, Some people wouldn't pay as much, others, like me, like that old school, the painter wasn't wearing a mask, psycadelic paint schemes.  I'd fork over more dough.

Red and Revs car is a numbers matching ride.
So is mine, but correctness down here doesn't mean too much, I definitely made money on changing the color.

:bananasmi I agree with everyone.  Although the real question is how long do you intend to own the car. If you feel you might be in a position to sell in in the next ten years keep it original.  If your keeping it for your own personal enjoyment paint it the color that winds your clock the most.  There is two types of value in buying these cars.  The value of its resale value if your a hard core collector and the value of enjoying your ride every time you drive it.  Only you can make the call which side of the fence suits your particular needs.  I chose to repaint my car from the bright green fir color to B5.  It is more appealing to me visually and really suits my car.  I hope that helped give another perspective on the issue.  :cooldancing:

That's why we dubbed it the LSD Cuda !! I guess if I ever decided to sell it there is a buyer out there for it. Would have to be someone wanting a Cuda Hot Rod. Really the only change from stock is the paint/modified hood and chroming of many little parts. Oh and the frenched in antennae on the passenger side quarter. I guess it is pretty crazy but the interior will be stock and will try to keep the engine bay and trunk looking original with the exception of the chrome/powder coating.

When I first looked at this car the solidness of the body and the fact it hadn't seen the road since 1977 drew me to it. I figured I'd buy it and paint it right away. When I got the car home and out of the barn it was in I washed/wiped it down and actually the crazy colors grew on me. 90% of the stripe colors are all mimicked after the high impact colors of Ma Mopar. I've got Panther Pink/B5 Blue/Lemon twist/Vitamin C orange to name a few. Car isn't for everyone and I'm sure I'll get called a few names for doing this to a Cuda. I'm just finishing someone's vision from back in the day. Wouldn't change it at all at this point. It is what it is............

Hey Choppintime, yours looks a hell of a lot better than some of those I've seen on that overhaulin show.  :grinyes:  Yours at least still looks like a Cuda! Some of those other modifeds look like something out of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon.  I'll take it if the color gets too boring for you. LOL I don't think that's possible.

I've seen choppin's car in the flesh, he's on the right track in keeping that car in it's period paint scheme. Thats a real time capsule for a modified car back in the day.

Looks great!  Can't wait to see it when it's finished.

Choppin,

I agree with Hemi. I love your car just the way it is.  Growing up in the 70's it appears perfectly normally to see a paint job like that.  Any car can be Plum Crazy but I would rather be Plum Psychedelic like yours....
