EXHAUST QUESTION: Dumping Exhaust just after mufflers?
« on: April 02, 2006 - 07:59:32 PM »
Hey guys, I have been struggling with something for a while now on my cuda.  I am wanting to go with an AAR clone, however I am not a fan of the AAR side pipes.  I also am running full frame connectors and Caltrack bars, both of which I think would interfere with the side exhaust.  Further more my car will be lower than stock - another stumbling block to running side exhaust.  However, even though I love the look of the rear exhaust through thte valence I don't think it suits an AAR.  So I was thinking of just dumping the exhaust after the mufflers.  Can this cause any harm to the car or the occupants?  Anyone out there had good or bad luck with this?  Thanks for the input guys.  Tyler

in most cases this is fine , if oyu have any leaks in the rear body though it can draw exhaust into the car through the trunk

Well, I plan to seal up the trunk (and the whole car) well before it goes into paint.  Does anyone have any pictures of their dumps?

Check your area's vechicle inspection laws (if you have any). In the state of PA, that type of exhaust is illegal. The exhaust must exit at the rear of the car, unless it's factory equipped with side exit exhaust, then it's OK to exit at the side. In no instance is it legal in PA for the exhaust to exit under the passenger compartment of the vechicle.

Strict inspections in Missouri require the exit at the rear of the car too

OR....   you could go with a selectable approach like we did  - forward OR rear --  using electric cutouts

Bad idea if your car isn't sealed really well. Inspection will be a problem in alot of states.
