1995 5.9L Magnum upgrade question
« on: April 02, 2006 - 08:20:11 PM »
I have one of these with low miles on it out of a 1995 2500 Ram. Would this engine respond well just bolting on a Air Gap intake, Holley 600 cfm 4bbl, and headers? Factory they were 230HP and 335 ft/lbs.(I think) and I hoped for some gain.

I know the factory cams are very mild but, it seems at every corner the Magnum upgrades break you from the valve springs, retainers, and locks to the roller cams...not to mention the other special stuff required for balancing these properly. The other reason is the low end torque appeals to me for the Challenger. I want to run a 833OD with 3.23 gears and I need lower end power for highway cruising and a bigger duration cam might not work well.

Any thoughts?

I have not tried this but you theory makes sense to me , the carb May be on the small size , I would be using a 750 , but with the lower RPM in mind it may be enough .........Just

I will have to check the Holley again as it might be a 650cfm. I have put 4bbls on 318's 2bbl's an left the cam and exhaust stock and noticed improvements. I don't know how restrictive the factory fuel injection setup is or if it puts out good power as is. I know the "barrel" intake is designed for low end torque so maybe more top end power woud be found with a dual plane 4bbl set up.  :dunno:
