The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Probably just to seperate the year from the sequence number.

The *s were used at the ends of VIN numbers as early as 1971, I have not seen one in the middle like that before though, it must be a typo. Did you get a photo of it by chance? I would like to use it in my "factory error" section if you did.  :thumbsup:

Thanks,
Barry

Edit - we are working on page three of the "errors" section, you can view itat this link;

They made a lot of mistakes........  :screwy:

I love to see the errors, others do to, it is a popular section of the website, I am always looking for more.  :wave:

I heard of another one today on a broadcast sheet, just waiting to get permission to post the photos........  :bigsmile:

The same guy that has the Satellite for sale has the car with the * in the middle of the VIN tag.  It's about 40 minutes up the road from me and I'll get a picture for you to use real soon.  It was very odd to see a * right where the build plant should have been!!!!!!!

I had a guy about a month ago tell me he looked at a "Z" code cuda that was a 440-6 from the factory. Do you see many cars with Z in the vin barry?

The Z code cars are pretty scarce. I have heard of one 1970 Hemi Cuda with a Z, it was supposedly built for the Sox and Martin performance clinics. I have heard of a 1971 B-body with a 440-6 as well, but I was not able to get any details on that car.

Oops. I suppose an explanation is in order.

Z as the 5th VIN digit is "Special order engine". In the case of the Cuda I mentioned it was a higher than stock compression ratio, possibly other mods too?
