Who restored your gauges? Are you happy with the results?
« on: April 03, 2006 - 11:19:27 AM »
I plan on sending my rallye cluster in to be refurbished/repaired and would like to know who other C.C. members went with and why. Were you happy with the end product (quality and price)?

I had Redline do mine last year, had 'em go through the whole thing - speedo, tach, clock, etc. Nice job, I thought. Just my :2cents:

I went with Performance car graphics. No problems. They did a great job. I don't think any place will do it cheaply though.  :eek7:

Auto Instrumnets here, very pleased with quality of work. They calibrated every gage, quartz converted clock, rebuilt speedo, bead blasted and repainted gage faces, polished glass. $675 to my door.

Performance car graphics did my challenger gauges and they did a great job. You might want to ask about turn around time as they may have them awhile if they are in there busy time of the year.

I used American Classic Restoration in Uxbridge, MA. http://www.american-classic.com/begin.html
They kept to their schedule estimate and do a full face restoration with silk screens - no decals. White face conversion and odometer dial reverse screens were no problem. This is expensive work, but well worth it for high quality restos.

PS. They also offer a trick radio conversion using your stock can (AM, AM/FM, or AM/FM/8 track) and all new internals, 80 W (4 ch) solid state amp, AM/FM PLL tuner, aux RCA inputs, and it all works through your stock knobs and tuning dial. 8 tracks retain the tape capability.

4C,
It all depends on what you need done. A clock rebuild, speedo repair, oil pressure gauge repair, paint the needles, re-polish my lens, I think that put me in the $700 range.

Basically, the way it works is... you send in the gauge cluster, then they call you back and let you know what needs to be done as far as repairs or calibration. The cosmetic stuff is all up to you, and what you want done.

4C is it a rallye cluster?
If so, bring it over, we could hook it up in a few minutes, since my cluster out of the car and in a box ready to go to Auto Instruments.

Yeah it is a rallye cluster.  I have plans to build a rallye dash as I have most of the parts now to do it.  All I would need is a dash pad and a wiring harness.  The bezel is decent but from the looks of the guages, they need some help.

:clueless:  Was also thinking I may just try to do it myself.

You'll end up spending between $600 and $1000 with most of the shops. Variables are quartz clock replacement (Usually $100 - 150), rescreen vs decals, solid state tach drive upgrades, speedometer and engine gauge calibration ($35 - $50 each), and lens restoration.

I did mine myself and used the decals. Everyone sells the same quartz kit for the clock, cheapest I found was $50+shipping. I upgraded the tach to a current technology IC. I did it all for less than $200 and it looks great.
