Side markers...fill'em or leave em???
« on: April 03, 2006 - 08:41:46 PM »
I have come up with a crazy idea of possibly sending my 73 Cuda to the bodyshop instead of buying another car. :pullinghair:  So it got me to thinking on just exactly how I want to have the car done.  My plan is something like this.  70 AAR style strobe stripes, 70 AAR rear spoiler, and 70 AAR style hood.  So I had been thinking about what to do with the side marker lights.  Then I saw one without on another site.  At first I liked the "clean" look.  Then... :dunno: something about filling those just makes me feel like I am messing up a good look to begin with. :dunno: So how do you all feel about the side markers???? :pullinghair:

I vote for leaving them on the car.  They maintain the great original look and they look great when they are lit up on cruise nights!    just my    :2cents:   :cooldancing:    ....Oldschool

I'd have to vote to leave them.

Leave them or possibly change them to the 70 style lights to go with your AAR look.

If you remove them that might even be illegal.

They're required on 1968 and newer. The reason is it's much safer at night.
It's hard to see a car at night from the side without them.
My '67 is the only year camaro to not have them.

I agree with this BUT it might be a little difficult seeing that a 73 just has a dent and the 70 has a hole!! just my  :2cents: but I think they look nice on the side! and they do look nice lit up!!!

I'd definitely keep them...There's just something that looks wrong to me when I see a muscle car with shaved marker lights or door handles. (especially E-bodies 'cause those two parts add a lot to the original design of the car.) :2cents:

Recess them. It's the only way to make them look acceptable in my opinion.
What the heck was ma mopar thinking when they put those cheap pieces of crap on such a nice car to begin with? Looks like they were put on with double sided tape.
I've seen nicer side marker lamps on garbage trucks. In fact, they used the same side marker lamps on everything from 72 until the late 80's and even on...you guessed it...garbage trucks.

BTW, they're still available at the dodge dealerhip.

Back in the eighties there was this yellow Challenger in my town with the side markers shaved and it sure looked clean.
I think it would hurt your resale value in the long run but if you want to go custom all the way.....

Here is a pic of mine with the markers shaved and lowered with bigger tires  (adobe)

I plan to shave the marker lights, door handles, bumper bolts as well as any hood signals when I do mine.

I say shave 'em.

BTW, does anybody know if '71 billboards have the door handle and side marker holes pre-cut or not?
