Sorry a WIW...Challenger

Just got an tip on a 70 318 Challenger in Southern Texas.  The car is suppost to be gold with greenish gold interior (never seen a gold interior).  Anyway it is a column shift auto with A/C and needs 1/4's and trunk floor.  But is suppost to run and drive.  I was told "$6500 or somewhere close to that would buy it".  Whatever happened to OBO???  Then the old line of "Well I could get that for it on  ".  So before I make a 3 hour 1 way trip is this in the ballpark for one of the more "undesireable"  (if thats possible) Challengers.

Well that depends on what is there.  How solid it is. Some peoples idea of needing trunk is that it needs frame rails too.  So the price does not sound bad for a running driving car.  Check the top of the front fenders too.  I have two challengers neither of them would leave here for less than $5000.

I asked about the frame rails but the owner said he had not checked them.  He has had the car since 78 and it has been "off-road" since about 84-85.  He said he has stored the car inside his garage since then. He said he has started the car about 3 times a year and pumped the brakes up to keep everything from freezing up.  The only part that gets me is the car is down closer to the coast so his idea of light rust in the 1/4's might be half way up the 1/4's   But I fiqure if i don't go look, it will end up at Texas Toy Box for about 19k.

I should know something tomorrow night. I am thinking about driving down tomorrow and scoping it out.   The wife is not to excited.  She said "I thought you weren't going to look for anymore since you got the Cuda".      I just replied

Well I just got back from a little road trip.     AND...... this was my reaction   


It was not what I would call a project car.  It was more of a parts car with no good parts left.     But that is the breaks of the game.  Got to take a little road trip and hunt cars in the process so all was not lost!    Just means the search goes on.

I just bought an original 70 318 Challenger. Paid around 6500. They are getting harder to find and the price keeps going up and up

That sucks it turned out to be a pile, but you should be able to find another good project sooner or later.

The reply was along the lines of "When you load it on the trailer and haul it away you are welcome to take all the pics you want".

Awwwwwe, that sucks!  I hope you didn't have to go too far.  It doesn't seem like he was the nicest guy in the world when it came to pics.  Who knows, had you posted it here maybe someone would have bought it from him.  Oh well, his loss.  I am sure you will find something more restorable.  Good luck!

Actually that is what I was wanting to do.  I was going to ask him if he would like me to post it for sale on the Challenger website.  But after the response I got I was not going to ask anymore.  One of my co-workers actually found the car and gave me the mans name.  I drove down today (about 2 hours one way).  But I also spotted another potential car while I was out, so I am waiting to hear from that owner   And if that doesn't turn out to be anything I will just keep looking.

I have a couple of projects already..nothing of any real value.  But I like the cars I have.  I just want a few more then I can focus more on getting them fixed up.  Still looking for a 71 RR or GTX, a 70 Charger (for my Dad), and a Challenger.  Then  I'll be happy as can be. Let the  begin and one by one.

Got another tip today on a 360 4 speed Challenger...   So we will see what happens.  I am waiting for the call back now.
