Correct painting of the undercarriage on my AAR Cuda
« on: April 06, 2006 - 03:08:35 AM »
Well, my car is just about ready for paint. Originaly, I was going to paint the whole bottom B5 just like the rest of the car. After thinking alot about all of the correct date-coded parts I have, and how far I went with the body : NOS full quarters, tail panel, and NOS one piece trunk floor etc, ...I think I should prime it, and blow the color in the correct way. Has anybody done this on their car? I guess what I'm looking for are some pictures of finished cars, as well as the much appreciated input from you guys...
Back about five months ago or so, when the plum crazy national OE certified AAR was listed (only for a meer $130,000 at the time), they had a nice pic of the bottom, and it was obviously done correctly. Did anyone save those pics?? I usualy save that stuff for refernce, but cant find it. (this is the same car that just brought over $226k)...I guess we should have all pitched in!!!  :roflsmiley:  :clueless:  :swear:
Also some pics of correct undercoating are needed!!! What is the correct primer too? Thanks in advance!!!
Rudy

There have been several articles on this in Mopar Muscle and such. From what I gather, the underside was the dip-gray colored primer. The color of the primer may have differed across assembly plants. Body color would have been oversprayed on the underside and interior.

I did happen to find this picture! It's a good reference so far... I'll have to look for those past magazine articles.

I went through some of my old Mopar magazines that I have saved and I came across one that may be of interest to you. The issue of Mopar Action dated February 04. Although the car in the acticle is a 440+6, it is a 70 car that was perfectly restored. This article is one of the best I have seen on how they were done at the factory. This should be available as a back order through them. Id recommend you try to get that issue. I'm sorry that I can't post pics of the articles here due to scanner problems communicating with my computer.  :banghead:

awesome! I will try to get ahold of that issue, I'd really like to see it.

p.s. here are some shots of my future project!....(no time soon!!!)

my 71 Barracuda convertible...(383 2bbl) I found this car in the same little lake town here in Indiana, that I found my AAR!! I bought it from the original owner. She was a old lady who purchased it new in 71!! This is a very rare car...I want to restore it, but make it a 383 Cuda convertible clone, with shaker, billboards, etc...It's Tor Red, and with MINT black interior...this car is so d**n original its crazy (except for paint) I'm NOT going to put a HEMI in it..!!

if you are able to set it at 300dpi or higher, you can email the image to me to at rudymunis@hotmail.com, because it may be too big for this site. I have just about every magazine laying around but that one!! There's not too many resources around on this subject, and I want it to look right.
