Where to buy a 360??
« on: April 07, 2006 - 09:40:46 PM »
Okay after fighting the 318 in my Dart  :swear: I am ready to make it a boat anchor.  :banghead: After $900 of boring it...decking the block, milling the heads, installing new pistons, yada... yada.... yada.....the motor will not seal to save its life.  First we thought it was a cracked head. Went through 5 sets of heads to finally get a good set.  Installed those and guess what.  IT STILL LEAKS ANTI-FREEZE around the head and block ....... :faint: :swear: :stomp: :pullinghair:   So we have come to the conclusion that either the block is cracked (which was checked by the machine shop already), or the dowel pin is keeping the head from totally sealing to the engine.  Anyway I am considering just pitching that out and starting with a fresh 360.  And the thought of spending $4000 on a crate motor is not to exciting.  So is there anywhere that sells pre-magnum 360's that are already built and ready to go?? :dunno:

:clueless: Why is so easy to fork over $3000-$4000 for another project car  when I don't want to spend $4000 on a motor to get one of them running?? :screwy: :eek4:

If you want a '78 (magnum) 360, a guy just offered me a 1978 Magnum with a good 360 and trans.  I'll I have to so is go pull it out..... it's free to me.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I had an easier time finding a 340 than a 360. I guess it depends on what you're looking for and where.

Check your local boneyards and even the local parts guessers can get a hold of some remans.  I would guess that a reman 360 Short block can't be too bad.  Around 1k I would assume.  Most come with replacement cast pistons and new rings, seals, etc.  A decent cam and some good flowing heads should work good to just get moving.

Good luck...
