Crate v. Rebuild Continued
« on: April 07, 2006 - 11:13:55 PM »
I really appreciate all of the knowledge that you all possess.  Lets say for a moment I am searching for a short block instead of a turn key.  Is there a difference between the Horse power capacity of a 440 block which came out of a 70-71 cuda or challenger, versus one that came out of a Newport, RV or truck.  Also what is the difference between HP versus non HP stamping on the block.  Finally, can anyone direct me to a reputable source for a 440 block or complete engine?  I live in Florida.  thanks for all of your help thus far.

There isn't any major differences, the biggest I can think of is that some RV had reverse flow water pumps. Also, there isnt any difference in the blocks between HP and non-HP blocks (except the HP stampings) Go to 440source for more info on block strength and the more desirable years.
