Please Help!!
« on: April 10, 2006 - 06:53:18 AM »
Hey all, having some issues with my guages. I replaced the guages and the limiter this weekend and they were working until I put the dash back together. Later on sunday I went out to the car to go out with the wife and the guages started not working as well and then they stopped completely. The limiter that I put in was NOT new. Any words of advice to trace down this issue ASAP would be greatly apprecitated. Please respond to my email

Thanks everyone.

voltage limiter is the dash voltage regulator, same thing. I cant find anyone that has one here. Do you think that could be it. I tried 3 other ones but none were new.

Do you have a standard dash, or rally? If it's a rally, does the tach. and clock still work? They have nothing to do with the voltage limiter, that's why I'm asking.

The clock and tach use 12v, The limiter takes that 12v and opens and closes a set of points very quickly to give the gas, oil, and temp guages 5v so they don't peg the needle. I think standard calls it a guage voltage limiter. Measure that regulator with a test light. You should have a light at the main wire in and a dim light at the output to the three guages.     Also look on Google for the solid state one that you build using a 5v regulator and resistors from Radio Shack, that fits inside the stock piece.

I do have the rallye dash. the tach doesnt work but the clock does. I checked for voltage at both sides of the limiter and the one side said 12 and the other had 0. I think the limiter may be my issue. now I can not find any that are accually for the E-body (3 prong (2 male 1 female)). everyone has the two prong b-body type. I tried standard and they sent me a pic and it too was for the two prong b-body. any other ideas.

How would I go about opening that one up to rebuild it?

I am not sure what year you are working with, but you may want to look for Standard numbers or Borg Warner as a cross reference. The pictures do show 2 prong, but you may want to look at them in person. Hope this helps...

Standard
VRC601 $26.79 Rockauto.com
VRC602 $17.70

Borg Warner
R307 $18.00 Rockauto.com

Wells
IRV607 $18.00
IRV603 $15.99  Auto Zone

EVERYBODY JUST CALM DOWN ok I have in my hand a brand new genuine NOS OE 3 prong Mopar dash voltage regulator HEMI MOTHERF#$%^. It reads 1 ohm across the terminals and 60 ohms from the terminals to the body/third terminal. Before you do anything else get an ohmmeter & check your voltage regulators. If they are all bad(& I bet they are not) you may be in luck. Probably the only difference in the 3 & 2 terminal styles is the e-bodies need the third terminal for an external ground. If so a wire with a male spade could be soldered to the body creating the missing terminal. R/T has em in

If I am right(that they are the same electrically) just plug in, assuming that the 2 terminals are oriented correctly. But my bet is that there is another problem. He did say at one point that they worked, someone else says that clock & tack? don't use regulator but he states that nothing is working, therefore maybe a bad ground, loose plug????
