Shift Kit for LOCK-UP Torque Converter 727 ??
« on: April 19, 2006 - 08:02:09 AM »
I'm looking for a shift kit for a 727 automatic with I believe a lock up torque converter.
It's on my 78 Super Coupe.  Some literature I have states it has a lock-up converter.  The car seems to pull a few hundred rpm less at 60 mph in 3rd gear than other 727's I've had with the same rear gear ratios [ 3.23/3.21]  But 1st + 2nd seem the same.
The tranny shifts fine, each gear works good , but I'd like a snappier shift.
It's behind an E-58  " police interceptor"  360 cu in motor.

What is the reason I can't find one ??  Is it the convertor that is different ?  The valve body ? Both ?

I'm not in the market to replace the whole tranny at this time [$$]

Just get a mopar performance shift improver kit. You take out a spring, block a piston up, increase pump pressure. Different things that will get rid of gear overlap and give you that crisper shift that you want. You don't have to pull the tranny and can do it from below.

I will be posting some info in the next week that will keep you from having to buy any shift kit. Keep an eye on the Transmission Section.
