black smoke
« on: April 19, 2006 - 06:10:12 PM »
So here is the problem the challenger has been blowing black smoke.  Its wierd though, it dosent blow any on start up or idle.  only when you get on the gas does it smoke.  It still makes good power and runs great.  It dosent seem to go through oil too fast so I am clueless.  My mind always goes to the worst thing possibl and I realy dont want to tear it apart now.  Only thing i can think of doing now would be a compresion test or cylinder leakage test.  any Ideas or thoughts would be helpful.

Sounds like your carb is to rich, oil would be blue smoke, black smoke is caused by to much fuel.

Had the same problem before I had the engine rebuilt - too much fuel. At least it's an easy fix!
