Hemi Flywheel Help
« on: April 20, 2006 - 06:05:34 AM »
I'm in a bit of a quandry here.  I have a 70 Cuda' with a 426 that's going through a complete retrofit.  I just ordered a Keisler Tremec 600 with the .64 top gear, Mcleod Street Twin and Keisler's hydraulic throw-out bearing / master cyl.  The issue is the flywheel currently installed is a 143 tooth along with matching mini-starter and Lakewood bellhousing.  It is an older (if that makes a difference) one piece scatter shield.  I need to determine before Kestler can complete the order what flywheel to get with the Street Twin.  Now, it seems to me that the 130 tooth flywheels have a better selection of parts and, in fact, is a cheaper Mcleod unit.  The Keisler trans requires GM style 26 spline discs so the Street Twin is a mixed bag anyway.

The question is, if I go with a 130 tooth Street Twin can I use my scatter shield and mini starter?
Also is there really a big difference between the Aluminum and Steel flywheels other than the obvious weight savings for a Hemi?  I've never played with an Aluminum flywheel.
Lastly, the clutch assembly can be ordered with either the Borg&Beck-Long or Diaphram pressure plate.  Which is best?

Thanks
Tom

the belhousing has double starter mount holes to accomadate both flywheels
the B&B / Long is far better
an alum flywheel will remove all the inertia from the engine so the car will be hard to launch unless you rev it too 4000 rpm & drop the clutch , use a steel 30 lb flywheel

Since you have a Hemi, don't buy a regular "CAST" flywheel that came on almost every mopar out there. Get the right HIGH-STRENGH Steel flywheel
