Floor install
« on: April 20, 2006 - 08:10:52 AM »
WEll here goes,,,setting up to replace a front floor pan (3/4L)  from Shermans.  After removing the rot and laying in the new pan.  Took a few self taping screws and secured it to the rocker and hump. REcut the hump side,, now I notice that the new one sets tight to the support brackets for the seat,, however, it is about 1/4" 3/8" off of the frame rail.  So heres my ? :dunno:  Should I try and press it down to the rail,,(taking a chance to warp/buckle the new metal??    LEave it if it seems firm"  or use some flat stock and "shim"  the top of the rail to the new pan?   How did you do it? :clueless:  Thanks  Doug

I worked on a guys Cuda that had "spacers" between his floor and the frame. It just didn't look right from below, with gaps exposed, filled with seam sealer. I just put the front 1/2 drivers's floor in and decided that since it's under the carpet, I'd make it look like the original and stretch it a little.

You need to work that pan to fit tightly to the frame rail. Otherwise, you are losing the structural intregrity of the unibody. Remove your rivits or screws and allow the pan to rest firmly against the top of the frame.

:iagree:   Screw it to the frame or supports, starting in the center and working
your way to the rocker and tunnel hump.
