He doesn't think he'll ever sell it. (don't we all say that)
While he's driving it with the 440, he can build the 340. That way, when he finds a better e-body, (don't we always), he can return the 340 and sell it. Then put the 440 in the next car that he isn't going to sell.

PS. I'm building a 340/4spd car to sell and I'm putting a 340 in it too. But I've had a 440 e-body to make me say"WEEEEEEE"

June Mopar Muscle has the new small block 440, they say 500HP(est) 535 lb-ft (est), i'm sure we'll see loads of demand for these.
Big ci in a lighter block. Win Win, and it'll look like the 340 too.

The 440 small block would be the way to go but the track record of Mopars crate engine quality and the prices they charge are what is turning me off to this idea.  If they charge a resonable price this would be the way to go.  I'm not ruling one of these out but, I'm not sure if it willbe  cost effective compared to what it would cost to build my own big block 440.

Plum6Pak, I do see your point on keeping the 340, I have gone back and forth on keeping the 340 or going 440 for exactly the reason you state.  But from what I have seen on the resale market a nicely done orginal 340 car done up as a 440 car seems to fetch more then a 340 car with another 340 in it (assuming that the 340 is not the orginal).   So this is why I am leaning on going the 440 route.  Also the 340 I have is not a date correct 340, if it was, then I would stick with the 340.

ChevyConv.  Do you hear that person yelling "WWEEEEEEEE" when you jump on it?  I wonder if the 440 WEEEEEE would be a different pitch if we raised the cubes to 496.   Robb?  Those 440source kits are looking mighty cheap. ($1395)

Here is an idea..  supercharge that small block!  Keep the motor.. no swapping motor mounts and other suspention parts. same tranny, everything else stays the same.. yeah a supercharger is pricey.. but so is a 440.

A lot of good engine combos and builders referenced above, but one recently got my attention. I was talking to Herb McCandless at the Indy trailer while at Mopars at the Strip (Vegas) last month and we were discussing a small block stroker package they were featuring that makes over 610 HP on pump premium at 11:1 compression. A lot to be said for volumetric efficiency and the right cam and induction combination. I think it was 426 ci (!) or thereabouts and on special at around $12K turnkey.

It was the best value in small block performance I've seen, and it makes about the same HP as my 518 ci Hemi (frustrating as that sounds).
