    Another Wheel & Tire Question

    Chryco Psycho said the best size for the wheels on a E-body was 15x7 front and 15x8 back.  What is the best backspacing for these?  Also, what is the widest 50 series tire I can put on there?  I want to handle really well, and need to know what I can fit in those wheel wells.  Thank you for you help!

    I was able to fit a "cop" rim under the front of my Cuda. That was an 8" rim. I had a set of 245 60 R15 up front. Nice an wide. I tried a set of 255's but they rubbed. Not sure of the back spacing but most Dodge Diplomats had these rims on them. You should be able to find them at any local junk yard to get a measure. Unless anyone else here might know?

    I believe the backspacing was 3.5"

    70 challenger SE...

    225/60/15 in front on 7" rims

    275/50/15 on rear with 8"rims

    (tires are same height, but the 275's are NOTICEABLY wider !   They barely squeeze in between the springs and the fender lip.  Im glad I didnt go any bigger)  8) :D

      Okay, right now I'm tucking 265-50r15s on a 15x7 up front, and 295-50r15s on 15x8.5s in the back.  The rears will be changed, as they rub a little on big dips, but not at all during usual cruising or hard acceleration.  Just an update.
      Hey, anyone do 16" wheels and tires on an E-body yet, or know someone who can answer my questions?  I'm going for handling.

    I have seen an e-body in Mopar Muscle magazine w/ 17's. Anything can be done if you have the time and money!

    As long as you keep the same tire height, width, backspacing & offset, the only thing that will change is the amount of rim and sidewall you have.  I don't think your wheelwells care if they are being occupied by more metal and less rubber, so go nuts!
