Newbee From United Kingdom
« on: April 20, 2006 - 04:51:01 PM »
Hi there,

I live on a small island in the Channel Islands off the coast of France. Its only 9miles by 5miles. When we go out for a cruise, we basically go from one end to the other.
Needless to say we don't see many other Mopar, so we get quite a reaction.
I currently own a 72 cuda with a 440, It goes with me to watch the 24 hours of Le Mans,France for the last 2 years. And to the United Kingdom a month later for the Mopar Nats to go Drag racing best so far 13.4 after they dry the track, not bad for a 3.23 diff i think.
Recently i got my hands on a 68 charger from the insurance salvages for £2254, body is straight, no serious rust, just had an engine fire, see photo. Not a bad deal as it would have cost at least £1200 to ship one from the USA (not counting cost for me to find one in the same condition).
I share a workshop with my best mate who has a 65 Coronet we got in 1999 from Fortworth, and a 69 Barracuda that was a basket case. I've done all the welding for him, see befor and after pics, and check out www.flatratracing.com to see strip down and rebuild for yourself.

I have learned loads over the last couple of years and have much more to learn from the likes of you guys on the forum, i hope I can make a contribution too.

cheers,
Keithcuda

Welcome to the board Keithcuda!! Now that was a nice introduction!  Your cuda looks beautiful and would turn heads anywhere, not only on a small island.  :clapping:   It's a sad sight, that charger, but from the photos, it appears the damage was contained in the engine bay.  Is that true?  Is the interior in tact?  If so, you got an excellent deal!  Had to do the converstion to our us dollars which would be $4024.13.  The barracuda looks like it's come a long way too...very nicely done.

Glad to have you on board!

Thanks Rev-it,

I thought if i was going to introduce myself, i should do it right.
RE The charger, yes fire was contained, melted all the wiring and just pas the firewall.
The interior is tatty and i will update it all.
The Firemen had to bust through the grill to open the hood.
ITs been converted to a 69 general at some piont, grill, rear lights etc. I like the 68 so will change it all back.
No numbers matching here, so i'm going to do a resto mod in a year or so time, need to save up for hot motor and running gear.
I'll have some fun with it as the General for a bit then rotisorie.

Welcome to the site, KeithCuda!  It looks like you and your friend are keeping the MoPars running great and looking cool over by France.  Your '72 looks very nice and that 440 must be a blast to drive around the island. :burnout:  The '68 Charger looks like it'll be a great car once you finish repairing the areas the fire took its toll on. :working:

Thanks MEK, I messed up when fitting the air filter the first time, actually the first time i got it right, took the stud out and when i put it back forgot to check it was down far enough. Got a lovely star crack in the hood paint. Dah, how many people do that, ONCE for me.

inot2old, sorry the coronet was staged the stang hadn't staged yet, but hey don't tell anyone i told you. Looks good though, should post it on a Ford site. :lol2:

Hi Keith,

good to see you on here. We met at the pub on the Mulsanne Straight last year when you pulled in (my 'cuda was parked just down the road and we walked in).

The guy with the Challenger message board is Dave Robson - very knowledgeable and always happy to help our members in the UK.

Hi Rich,

Nice to here from a fellow brit.
I've confirmed my Camping permit for This years Le Mans.
And will be at the Euro Nats at Santapod a month later.
Hope to see you at one or other.
Hows the Cuda?

I've just fitted the Wilwood front brake kit (slotted and drilled/4pot calipers, etc), finished today, managed to fit under the 14" front wheels.
Boy does it stop now.
And i've trial fitted the 12.19" wilwood rear kit, they fit under the 15" rear wheels, i'm stoked.
