    Just wondering if you fellow e-body folks would be interested in some Torqueflite info on shift kits and other things. I have been working on Torqueflites for over 20 Years and would share what I have learned if you'all are interested.  It will be posted in the Transmission Section. :feedback:

    Of course! I would love to share knowledge. It also helps others that want to crack open the case to fix their trannies.  I also started rebuilding my own 904s and 727s 20 years ago when a tranny (aamco) tried to Charge me $1200, in 1984 to put a seal in. (high clutch piston seal).   The problem: I didn't have 3rd gear, or reverse. I got a trans kit, pulled it apart, changed all of the burnt clutches, put it back in,  SAME PROBLEM.  Looked in a service manual and noticed that the piston seals needed a special tool.  Took it up to AAMCO, asked for a price to just change the piston seal. Same price as a rebuild, $1200.  I took it home and made my own tool to compress those springs, then fixed it myself.  Since then, I've always rebuilt all of my trannies for my race cars.

    Ok, to be honest, rebuilding transmissions have always seemed like brain surgery to me.  We have a 904 that came out of the duster that we want to have rebuilt (currently no reverse).  If you could teach us how to do it ourselves, that would be awesome! :thumbsup:

    Iwould always love more info on the 904/727 its been about 15 years since i rebuilt one. I definatley could use a refresher  :droolingbounce:

    That is a great topic. I have picked up a book on how to rebuild 727s and was also looking at some of those complete over haul kits from B&M. I may have the need to rebuild my auto, since it has been sitting around for 13 years, I can't imagine it would be in top condition.

    Much like many the thought of breaking into one and actually fixing it doesn't sound like fun but would be kewl to learn. But if you are going to have the motor out you might as well.

    Thoughts? TIPS :clueless:? Anyone have a good lead on a great rebuild kit :thumbsup:?

    I do know one thing that I have heard through many serious Auto buffs, TransGo make the best shift kits.

    I heard B&M wasn't the best stuff around? TCI if anything, TransGo shift kits and Cheetah shifters.
    I prefer rod shifters like the Slap-stik, no cables.  :biggrin: Mopars with B&M hammer type shifters look like the common 1980s Camaros 350/350 poo combos.... :eek4:



    Being a trans guy, have you got behind or checked out the Gear Vendors Overdrive units?  :swaying:
