I'm afraid I don't know any body shop in your area that could do good work but, here are some things to look for in a good bodyshop.  First of all, don't take it to just anybody to do the work.  Anybody can "butcher" a car, but not anybody can work metal, fiberglass, brass, etc....  Things to look for are, what kind of materials do they use for doing the body work, ie.. do they work the metal or do they just bondo everything in sight.  Also note if they treat the metal with an acid etching primer.  This is extremly important because the acid etching primer will keep the metal from rusting under the paint and or bodywork.  Also ask them if they dissassemble anything off the car "ie doorhandles, door locks, mirrors, mouldings, chrome trim.  This is also very important for that flawless look on the paint job.  Last but not least, pitch in a little extra for a sand a buff for that show car look.  I know this is probably not the answer you were looking for but, I just so happen to be a bodyman in Florida and specialize in car restorations and show cars.  I have had cars from all over the country come to us for restorations and would gladly offer you help and or advice to help you get the look that you want.  Hope you the best of luck.   DJ

The challenger is an original R/T with 20k miles ( it's been sitting since 76 on blocks ) and want to do it right. I'd really only like to have the underneath done as the body doesn't have rust.

I'm looking for a body shop that specializes in Mopar restorations.

Hey 38 chevy.
Ludwig is right. Also when doing an original resto, the most important part is actually disassembly. Make sure many pictures and notes are taken as the car is taken apart. Clean suspension and driveline parts slowly while
taking them apart looking for paint markings. Most of these guys will tell you that Chrysler almost never made two cars the same way. Just when we think that "they always" did something the same way, we discover an exception. Do you have the buildsheet and data plates?

I'd love to keep the Mr Norms decal. Does anyone have an idea on how ???

Where is the build sheet on the car ??

I am in the process of purchasing the car. I just need to pick it up. It's an original 70 R/T 44O 4sp car with 20kmi. It's been sitting since 76.

I'm looking for a MOPAR restoration shop.

Does anyone know anything about Muscle Car Restoration in WI ??

Thanks

Here's where I found the build sheet in my Challenger. I found three of them in total.
- Under rear seat in between the springs
- Under dash on top of glove box
- In the trunk tucked down in between the trunk floor and drivers side quarter panel (there were only pieces left of this one barely reconizable.

My only advice about body and paint is "you get what you pay for".

Good luck

Hey 38-chevy, although I have no personal experience with John Balow at Muscle Car Restorations, it sounds like the best MoPar restorer to bring your car to.  If you want to look into possibly bringing your car there, here's the address and number:

 Muscle Car Restorations
11371 20th Ave.
Chippewa Falls, WI 54729

Phone #: (715) 834-2223

Also, I can't remember the month, and I'd look for the article if I didn't have so many issues, but Mopar Muscle Magazine had a great article on John Balow.  It was about his Plymouth Superbird he restored and it told a lot of useful information about his shop and all that good stuff Mopars are made of. :)  Looking at some of the awards this guy's received, no wonder he's the number one restorer of Mopars in WI. ;D  Just to name a few, FIVE Mopar O.E. Certified Restorations, 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze, and Two Mopar Nats Best of Show Awards.  Not to mention that he's restored more than 125 cars in a 10 year period, but I'm looking at a 1999 Year One magazine, so the numbers are even higher now! :o   Hopefully this helped you out somewhat.
