Painting a aluminum radiator
« on: April 26, 2006 - 10:02:07 AM »
Hey there, I'll be pulling my radiator (summit aluminum) to be installing a electric fan on it tomorrow. I'd like to paint it black actually. Figure i will hit it with wax/grease remover, scuff it some and paint. Anyone know off hand if there is 'radiator black paint' availible at local stores that is actually thinner than normal paint? Someone mentioned that to me and I'm just seeing if it exists before i search for it

Any other tips for painting it? should i use any kinda primer or will that just be more insulation and i should just shoot black over the aluminum?

Thanks :dogpile:

I bought a can from Eastwood. You are right in that it is a special paint that won't clog the fins. I didn't use any type of primer.

Goody, have you thought about asking a local radiator shop to paint it for you? My family owned a radiator shop and we would do things like that to get a customer to tell his buddies about us and for his business later. Never hurts to ask and if one says no and one says yes guess who gets the radiator work when you need it.
