In 1985 my car got caught in a flash flood and by the time I could get to her, she was sitting in water up to her beltline. Radar detector floating inside along with my AC/DC cassette's. Bummer. Well I let it sit for a few days and filed a claim. Had a mechanic check it out and insurance paid for new carpet and seats. I had a local upholstery shop handle it and had "hip" diamond-tuck vinyl installed. They were supposed to have rebuilt the seats from the frame up, since flood waters = sewer water around here. Flash foward 21 years. I'm getting rid of the diamond- tuck as part of my, "just gonna fix the wiring bugs now total restoration project" that I started over a year ago and what do I find? The original vinyl! Been a long time since it's seen the light of day.
But wait, the day's not done! I'm digging through some old boxes of parts that were taken off the car over the years and come across the old glovebox that had gotten "ruined" in the flood (Much to my wife's dismay, I don't throw anything away unless it's got fuzz growing on it and was edible at one time!) and believe it or not, the contents were still there. I started looking through it and made an awesome find. I was like a kid at Christmas when I saw that little piece of colored paper in remarkably good condition. I thought I had lost it, since I was sure it had become mush along with everything else in the glovebox but it was in a plastic sheath that hadn't been touched. In it I also found the original warranty and key replacement form with it as well as my original application for the title from 1984.
Since my better half just doesn't seem to understand the significance of this discovery, I thought I'd share the news with those who have a clue and would appreciate it. Thanks for being there!
