I"ve decided I " HAVE TO HAVE SOME MORE TOOLS!!!" :picture:
I'll get my: vacuum tester, fuel pressure tester, and my new timing light that shows RPM's...oh ya, and a couple new shop lights to see what I'm doing.    Will get back to tuning tonight :working:

Thanks for asking...I was able to get time last night to work on the carbs...I tested the vacuum, came in @ 12.  I also read up on Holley's website as well as my 70 cuda manual has info on 6pacs.  I'm slowing understanding.  I did adjust my timing again, and adjusted the idle and idle mixtureit appears to have stopped "running on" after I turn off.

I think it's improving.  I haven't had a chance to take it out since I connected the vacuum lines to front and rear and tuned.

My new timing light does have RPM's...I do have another little problem.  I had changed to electronic ignition, and since, my tach doesn't work.  I was told to get a tach adaptor, which I did, and it still isn't working.  W/ the Electronic ignition, my coil doesn't have a screw to attach the timing light too.  Does anyone know what or how to connect my timing light so I can read RPM's?

Your timing light has a tach on it?  If it does hook the wire to the negative coil wire.    If you can get that to read an rpm, you might want to next hook it to the tach wires under the dash.  My Factory tachs always worked with electronic ignitions. Maybe your factory tach is bad.

My tach was working fine B4 I put the EI in...I connected the proper wires per the instructions.   I was told about a tach adaptor sold by chrysler that was needed...I bought it, and connected per those instructions, no deal..  W/ my electronic ignition, I replaced the coil as well, it has wires going straight into it.  There's no place to attach my timing light. :hyper:

I know I have to just spend some time w/ it, but if anyone has a suggestion, I'm all ears. :clueless:

Hmmm..     My timing light has 3 wires .  Black for battery ground,  Red for Battery 12v,  Big black wire to hook over the #1 spark plugwire.      How are your coil wires covered so that you cannot connect a wire to the negative post?   Are you also saying that you don't have a gray tach wire that comes out of the firewall to hook to the coil?

How about a pic of that NEW timing light that didn't come with instructions.

I'll post pics shortley...My pics are usually huge???..my timing light obviously came w/ instructions, it has the usual battery connections as well as the spark plug connection, plus a 4th wire to connect to coil.  I bought it from summitracing.

My coil has 2 wires coming out of it, that I connected to my EI box which had the 2 cooresponding wires.  There is a joining point, which is connected by a plug setup.  I'm assuming if I disconnect, in order to connect timing light, the car won't start.

Give me 15 minutes, and I'll post pics.

I had an MSD system installed a couple weeks ago ( brain box, billet distributor, blaster coil ) and my tach works fine without the need for any adaptor. In fact I had already bought the adaptor, figuring I'd need one just from reading all the posts here, and turned out I didn't have to install  it. Wonder why that is? :clueless:

Maybe I'll double check what I did.   Instructions said " Brown wire w/ coil wire"   now I've got to find those damn instructions again. :swear:

Oh, I see that you don't have a Mopar EI. You didn't say that.  I assume that the black box on your firewall is your electronic ignition. Is that a Mallory HyFire?  That box should have a tach output on it. Hook your tach's gray wire and your timing light wire to that.  Do you have a pic of that box?

I use it to shrink my pictures for the site. Just play with the settings  till your pic is the right size.

Ohhh yeahhhh!!!   :ylsuper:  vaccum connected properly seems to work!   took my cuda out this weekend, first time since properly connecting vaccum lines to front and rear carbs.   Big difference.

All was good until I was coming home down that dark road and my headlights started to dim :22yikes:  seems I have a charging problem to deal w/ now :swear:

Why is it that the stuff you know least about seems to cause problems????

I'll start another post.

Thanks all for the help w/ my 6pac.  I'm glad I didn't get frustrated and slap on the 4BBL.

Great!
Now you have to play with the vacuum springs to get them to open when you want them to, unless you are satisfied with the performance now.

Rob

Lights dimming? Check that connector going from the alternators black wire into the firewall.  You might have to get the drill out and bypass it.
