bolts attaching flexplate to torque converter

Hi all,
I have a '73 Barracuda. It started making a bad noise and I noticed that the bolts that hold the flexplate to the torque converter had come loose. The noise was caused by the fact that they were hitting the case as the torque converter spun around. They got banged up pretty bad so I want to replace all 4 of them.
 
Questions:
 
a) They didn't have a lock washer on them, are they supposed to? Is that why they came loose?

b) For the replacement part, I found these at YearOne, part# TC1073 and part# FD49765. Any recommendations?

c) Any reason they could have come loose? Should I put some lock-tight on the new ones?

d) Anything else I need to know?

Welcome to the best site for e bodies on the web!  As for your question . . I don't believe they are suppose to have lock washers on them and I don't think lock-tight is needed either.  Did all the bolts come loose?  I thought that the way the flexplate spins is what keeps them tight.  Someone else will chime in here and help out too!  Hope you enjoy the site!

4cruzin,
I only looked at the two bolts that were exposed (I didn't want to turn the torque converter until I tightened those up). Both of the two that I could see were very loose. I think the whole thing was rubbing up against the metal case, which is what was making the noise. I could see the flexplate vibrating when the car was running.

I had the tranny rebuilt a few hundred miles ago (which is actually several years ago, I don't drive it very much).  Do you think maybe they just didn't tighten the bolts enough?

(a)No lock washers
(b) Not famaliar with the part # but they are probably fine.
(c) Yes , go a head and lock tight with the red stuff.
      I lock tight all converter bolts here at my shop.

 :iagree:YES, use the red lock tight on the bolts. I have'nt had any problems when I bolted the flex plate to the torque converter. :thumbsup:
My lugnuts require more TQ than your ricer produces!!!
