For a 70, the cheapest car you could find, if you aren't looking for a restoration project, would be a base model 318 car, with an auto transmission.

And in my opinion even those arent cheap by anymeans. A tubbed car will defiantely be cheaper...but usually they have something more than just tubbed wells, such as a cage or some other major work done...

Not really, because, if it's tubbed, it usually has a built motor, and other expensive items added on.  I've never seen a drag car sell for less than a plain base model.  Plus, you also have to factor in the cost of returning the car to stock, if that's the way you want to go.

:iagree: I do agree. We are talking project drag cars not full on race cars.......
The tubbed cars usually, not alwyas, go for less as the market for them is slim.

Your best bet IMO would be to find a solid rolling chasis and go from there......
This will be very expensive though, parts alone would scare most sane people away.

If you want a cheaper e-body, consider a 73/74 318 Challenger.  They are the only ones still affordable...

Everyone has  great advice!

I agree, if you just want a cheap E-Body, 72-74 will fit the bill.

If 1970 is what your heart desires, then a roller is a great idea but I guess my concern is just that since you're out of the US, I don't know how easy it'll be to source parts to complete your project, especially if $$$ is a consideration.

Would it be a better idea, although more costly, to get a complete running car?  Like a base 318 model such as what Ghost mentioned, something with mild modifications (less original) to make the $$$ cheaper but not to far from stock that it has a ton of aftermarket do-dads (modifications)?  Just a thought.

A tubbed car could be the cheapest option, especially since many of them are sold without the motor/tranny.

I think we need to define cheap?  To me that is $1000, to some that maybe $5,000.

I have a 70 Challenger that needs work.... I would be happy to sell right now. :burnout:

:iagree: for a 70 this would be the cheapest model, but it still will not be cheap if it is in halfway decent condition, due to others will be looking to buy it for a clone car (i.e. 440 six pack, or hemi car).  If you can find one for cheap, chances are it will be a rust bucket or need a lot of work, so in the end it will not be cheap.  When it comes to a 70 or 71 cuda, the word cheap is never used in the same sentence anymore.  I'm with the other guys here on this post, if you want to keep the cost down and still want a cuda, look to the 72-74 cars, they are still more affordable (notice I still didn't use the word cheap), but at the rate things are going they are getting more expensive all the time as well.   :2cents:

A tubbed car would be cool but make sure that when you look at it that it's street legal (if that's what you want to do as opposed to a track car.) as many tubbed cars were destined for life on the track and the items that made them streetable may have been taken off for sake of weight reduction, ie-steel body panels, bumpers, directionals, etc.  You probably already know this but I wthought I would mention it.
