My 71 cuda was in great shape underneath so I meticulously scraped off all of the undercoating and cleaned the heck out of it.  After all that hard work I am painting mine the body color to show off all of my hard work even if I am the only one that sees it.  Just my two cents.

I also did mine body color.I`m not a big fan of undercoating as I have seen cars where moisture gets trapped underneath it and rusts worse thanif nothing was on it.I asume Lizard skin is like bed liner ? and although it will hold up well it would be a b!tch if you ever needed to get it off.

Not 100% sure what we used but I know it ain't body color......this is a driver, I mean driven daily.
I wanted something that would last, was strong and still looked good. We used a sound deadener rubber type compound. Stones and road debris bounce off, take it in two years from now and blast it and it will be like new.
They used the same stuff on Joe Reagan's sick fish. Looks awesome and I have great peace of mind......

Paint looks good. No question about it, but is it worth it?  I've been down that road before having an extremely detailed undercarriage and I ended up being afraid to drive my ride for fear of messing up hundreds of hours of work or at a minimum spending several hours cleaning it up.

I'm with NZ.  For a daily driver it needs to be something other than paint, be it Lizard skin, Rhino Liner or good rubber undercoating. Of course, if you have no fear to drive it no matter what or if it's to be just a show car then by all means, paint it!

Some food for thought from a guy who makes a living as a designer.  You're eye is naturally drawn to details.  If you have too much of it, what's most important can be lost.  Think of a "Where's Waldo" picture.  There are always hundreds of faces to look at before you see what you're really looking for... Waldo!  If Waldo's face was on a picture the same size with a blank background, you'd see him instantly.

The lesson is that sometimes less is more.  Shiny brakes, lines and glossy suspension pieces with a few select colored accents really stand out against a colorless background. As long as it's clean, it will show well and will keep eyes focused on the details.  I know it's not for everybody, and shouldn't be (I like diversity, too) but that's my  :2cents:

Lizard skin is a spray on sound deadener,Its not a bed liner type,I just saw it the first time the other day on horse power TV.Its probably not much different than any other undercoating.Does anyone know the difference?I think in either case a DTM etching primer and sealer should be used on bare metal the get the best results.SOrry this probably should have been in the body shop section.

My Hesitation is,while I like to colored look better,I live 1.5 miles down a gravel road.Maybe I just drive 1 mile an hour and take 1.5 hours to get home, lol.People will think I'm nuts, but they already do.
I think I am going to go with Valspar 2k primer/sealer DTM,painted EF8,same as car and spray rock chip clear over that.I am ready to start up again and blast the undercarriage of my GC.My winter was full of ranch projects, too may post holes to dig and cant in the summer, ground is too hard so my cars had to wait.

I like the same as body color.  If you do that, just remember that the maintanence required to keep it looking good is WAY more than a regular underbody coating....    :cooldancing:

I used to have a truck with a color matched sprayed on bedliner from ultimate linings and it was the toughest thing I had ever seen.  I thought about checking into that for mine.  I like the look of the body color, but I'll be driving mine on these terrible Arkansas roads so I think undercoated would definately be the smarter move for me.  My cars gonna be black anyway, so It would be just a little useless to go body color.  Now I'm just wondering about removal.  I won't hijack this thread  I'll start a new topic for that......

I felt I probably should justify my earlier response.  I'd paint it body color if you wanted to really make it stand out from the rest at shows, but expect to take more time detailing it as OS said.  A great alternative would be applying a paintable undercoating so it would still be appealing under there, yet you wouldn't have to do as much maintenance as regularly painted metal. :dunno:  If you do decide to paint it body color, I'd suggest spraying the wheelwells with an undercoating (or those rock guard sheets) to prevent chipping.

Maybe no one knows what Rock guard paint is,lol. Its a clear(or colored too)Rock guard spray which is usually painted on the rockers and back of the rear wheels for rocks hitting the paint. It is sold at any auto paint store either in bulk or rattle can,I have always used it,its good stuff
