Good luck Dylan!  We have a 383 with Dynomax headers and it's a tight fit and covers the starter.  With any bigblock you're going to have tight tolerances.  When we were putting the engine back in, we opted for a mini-starter which helped a little, but it's still pretty tight.

No such animal exists. They all encage the starter.

hedman makes a shorty header that doesn't encapsulate the starter, but they aren't the best if you are looking for max power probably

Thanks for bringing that up.

I know Schumacher(sp) makes a shorty header that I asked Chryco about waaay back. He said they are poorly designed, and are just a compromise between the stock manifolds, and true headers. I believe they won't encage the starter, but at this point, we don't know the intentions of gibbs6017. If you are looking for the most bang for the buck, then true headers are the way to go, even if they are a pain to install.

---and save up for good ones like the TTi's, much better quality and fit than hookers

here's a couple of pics for comparison:

1) hooker big block (5901?) competition header next to hedman shorty

2) hedman shorty modified with collector off of hooker header vs. stock hedman shorty

according to their website they clear the power steering and they are available coated as well.....I think 78076 would be the part number but I would check with a parts place to be sure.
