Introducing Myself
« on: May 09, 2006 - 11:04:55 AM »
Hello, Forum Members. I'm David, newly removed to North Carolina from Michigan, where I worked for Ford and GM (and even Volkswagen) but not for Chrysler.

I bought my 73 Challenger in 1978 when I was 16. It was already my 3rd car, replacing a 69 Satellite which had replaced a 65 Bel Air. I fell in love with the Challenger, though, and there's never been a serious consideration of selling it. In the meantime I've had a pair of 71 Gremlins, and 71 Javelin, several Jeeps, and a string of "transportation cars."

The Challenger has been off the road for about 15 years, and I'm just now seriously starting to put time and money into it.  I built an X-head 340 for it a couple of years back, mated it to a 727-A, and got it "street legal," although still no fun to drive. Well, it's hard to say that driving the car you drove in high school is no fun, but between the exhaust rattles and the electrical problems, it keeps me on my toes. The goal for this summer (2006) is to work out the electrical kinks (and there are many), put a good exhaust system on, and get at least a good start on the interior.

Attached pic is from the Michigan-to-North-Carolina trip. Although it was running I didn't dare trust it to make that trip, so I hauled it behind a Ryder truck.  Paint is close to ten yers old, and although the sides still look good I've got to buff out the hood, trunk and roof and have some touch-up done.

:clapping:  She looks pretty good for sitting for 15 years!  Welcome to the forum! There are plenty  of friendly, knowledgeable folks on the board who can help track down any electrical issues you have (I, unfortunately, am not one of those people! :grinno: ).  Electrical problems make me do this...  :pullinghair:

Welcome to the board. Looks like a solid car.

The more I see the later year Challengers the more I love them. I'd love a black 72, 73 or 74 Challenger.  :bananasmi

Welcome to the site, David!  The car looks like it's quite nice, especially considering you've owned it since you were 16.  Keep us updated with your progress and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have along the way.

Thanks for the welcome. The last time I looked at anything like this was a car club in Michigan, Oakland MoPars or something like that. They had a load of beautiful cars. When I asked them how I went about joint, a guy with a sweater tied around his waist told me that I had to be sponsored to join, like a country club.

This is a much nicer group of people  :)
