360 in a Prius ?
« on: May 10, 2006 - 07:15:03 AM »
Anyone else think a 360 swapped into a Prius would be worth doing?  I think I'll post the question over at PlanetHybrid.com and see what they think.

A Toyota or as I like to call cars similar in size, a bus poo.

In all fairness it's probably a great little car for city driving etc.

4C,

It's Toyota's hybrid.  I thought it might upset the dirt-worshippers a tiny bit if I swapped a gas-guzzler motor into one.

Ohhh, I thought you meant could a Prius get moving if you put a 360 motor in the trunk or would the weight be too much for it ??

You could tell all the other hybrid owners you swapped in a V8 because you care for the environment. Then tell them the load of extra batteries in their car are going to leak in to our water supply when the car gets scrapped 10 years from now. Kumbyah my lord, kumbyah.

Just a thought..... Why do all hybrid vehicles look like crap? It must be a hippie pride thing or something...

I just wonder long-term, if the ways will justify the means. I mean... once the batteries have to be replaced, at say, $5,000. It makes you wonder how much gas you could have bought with that money. These cars aren't that cheap to buy either. And yes KTO, they look... um, I'll be nice... they look dorky.  :eek7:

It's good on gas yes, but it's more about echo friendly. You Americans love polluting and wrecking the world!  :icon16: :bricks1:

my only ? is why ???
I cannot figure why every hybrid has to be butt ugly
generally when I spot one of those hybrids I smoke them out with my diesel , not that diesel is really all that dirty compared to gas but it sure looks dirtier !!!

Yeah a 360 in it would be cool if they could figure out how to hook up the electric motor gizmos to it.  (Seriously)

If DC made a car that was a hybrid with the 5.7 liter Hemi in it with the MDS cylinder deactivation along with the electric motor gizmos that kick in at idle/low speed it would be interesting.

Good points made.  As MEKrunner pointed out, these cars aren't cheap.  To reap the benefits of gas savings, you have to keep the car long term, I think like over 5-7 years, to receive the benefits of the gas savings over the additional cost of the hybrid car, then you have to dump those savings into possible upgrading your batteries!

Hybrid cars aren't a bad idea,  It's still in it's infancy.  There's lots to be done with them.

Mitsubishi , I think 1.5 years ago, made a hybrid Eclipse with 400hp.  260hp came from a 6 cylinder and 140hp came from the electric motor.

:iagree: Yeah, most hybrids are butt ugly!

What I want to know is - if a hybrid car has a gas engine that shuts down at every stop light and the oil companies say that most engine wear is caused on statup [ believable]  then how long can the gas engine part last ??
