VIN locations
« on: May 14, 2006 - 09:34:22 AM »

I have read many references to VINs being stamped on various body parts.  With regards to the radiator supports, where exactly should they be found?  The right side support in our car has been molested, it looks like it was for a smaller (22"?) radiator and was cut with a torch then a piece of a 26" support screwed over the top of it...weird!  The "22" support still wraps around and spot welded to the right fender shield.

The car has factory A/C, and I thought ALL A/C cars came with 26" radiators anyway.  The line code for the radiator on the build sheet is "26" which I thought was the rad size too.  I'm confused  :clueless:

You are the MAN!   Thanks!

I was looking at the side supports, not the yoke  :screwy:

On the transmission, I've been looking down along the pan rail.  Supposedly there are some sort of numbers on the block below the cylinder head, I see a couple numbers there but the rest is rusted off  :(

Well, I found all the numbers in the indicated palces EXCEPT on the radiator support.  The only number I found on it was on the passenger side, stamped upside-down and it does not look like a VIN, it has numbers and letters mixed.  :clueless:   All the other numbers match the VIN under the windshield.  Four out of five with one missing, is that okay?

You know, thats where I used to look for a long time too, on the pan rail....  Ive seen a lot of references telling people to look there.  There ARE numbers there that decoded to the version of 727 for the car and motor combination, but no VIN.

That pic/scan is something to hold on to for sure.

is there a yellow sticker or anything else possibly covering the top of the support ?     Ive heard of some stickers covering the numbers before.   :dunno:

I will look some more, maybe I took the locations too literally?  It might be on top and not specifically in the right front upper corner?  The support is rusty in some places and has thick paint on others, maybe there is still hope in finding it.

Thanks

I just went and looked at mine, and on my car the rad support numbers are on top of the Rail, and just to the drivers side of the hood spring about 4 inches or so and mine is covered by a yellow sticker (but the first letter is visible)........ and with a flashlight at the right angle I can read the rest of the numbers underneath as the sticker kinda light depresses into them.

good luck

The radiator support number location can vary a lot. I have seen them from the center of the radiator support to clear over by the battery, sometimes on top and sometimes stamped in the engine bay side. I have seen them under the yellow coolant stickers too.

Happy hunting.

Found it!  :bananasmi

Is in the back (engine) side of the radiator support yoke, upside-down, and near the upper edge near where it slopes downward.  Was under several coats of paint  ;D

Thanks for the help
