Am I stupid for even toying this idea?

Just wondering, do you enjoy working on cars? Would you be able to work on a Viper? Maintaining may be more expensive than a 70's e-body

  I wouldn't even want to work on my daily driver. Oil changes are about it. This removing three things to get at what I really want to get at isn't too much fun.

WOooh doggies.  Maintaining a e body is MUCH MORE $$$$$ than any of the 5 vipers I've owned.  I LOVE the e bodies and will always have a spot in my garage for one.... let me say that again.  I LOVE THE E BODIES.  But I'm here to tell you that a Viper is just another Dodge product that is easy to get parts for, easy to work on, and if you are a member of the Viper club of America you get 25% off parts at most dodge dealerships.

This a no brainer.  I can drive my viper across the United Sates and back without a problem, lock it up with a good factory alarm when ever I sleep somewhere, and get 20+ miles per gallon if I don't get on it.

The only thing that is more money on a viper is the oil.... 10 qts of synthitic.    

My advice... get both.  If you can't have both... keep saving.  Everyone should have new muscle to go with old muscle.  Shouldn't have to choose.  They both are great cars.... just different.  If you do not want to work on the car and just want to cruise... the viper is a good choice.

You know I've been thinking about a Viper myself but, I don't know. I don't make a ton of money to began with but, I thought about maybe trading the Ram and selling the Challenger for it. I would still have my Dakota Convertible but, the problem with this classic car hobby especially Mopars is getting decent parts for an E-Body and these companies with their crappy customer support. Not to mention when you buy parts from people its a hit and miss situation. I do love my E-Body though and nothing like owning a muscle car for sure. The other problem is finding someone who can do decent work on these cars that doesn't just half a$$ it ya know. Anyways, if you're looking for something you can get in drive then I would say Viper. If you enjoy V8 sound and like working on your cars then I say keep the Cuda. Just my two cents.

I wish I could persuade you one way or the other, but it is your call.  There are +'s and -'s for both of them.  I don't own a Viper OR an "E" bod.  Nothing wrong with either one, and I could have bought either one, but in the end it came down to what I liked.  Down the road I might change my mind and get either of those, but for now the Beast works for me...   Good luck with your choice...................        ....Oldschool

You know, I've been thinking about it some more and I know that the e bodies give me something the viper never will.... A feeling of accomplishment.  Everyone who owns an e body either will or already has done some work on it.  It's a good feeling to look at something you've done and get that warm fuzy feeling of a job well done.  There just isn't anything to do to the viper that will gives me the same feelings

Another vehicle that I do think will be a keeping in the long run is a Prowler.  The prices seem to be very good right now.... 27K to 30K get a clean one.

  I like those Prowlers too, I just wish they would of been around long enough so maybe they would of got stuffed with one of those new Hemis.

I do have a soft spot for the Prowlers, lack of performance aside.  Easily the best looking sports car they made in the 90s.  The Vipers and Vettes have nothing on that car.

They weren't too bad, at least when they had the 3.5 HO with 253 HP. There is a lot of aftermarket support for the body and even a little for the engine. I think it was paxton that made a supercharger for them or you can always run nitrous which they respond well to. Another option, although quite expensive, is to buy a stroker engine. I really like the prowlers and I cant think of another newer vehicle that has kept its value as well as the Prowler, they have been floating around 30k for the last 3 years.

CODY, I would not disagree with what you say if you are talking about a daily driver,  I assume an e-body is a hobby car that sees very limited use.

If someone knows of a company that will insure my Cuda for $50,000 and let me drive it daily please let me know. 

AAA has collector car insurance with no mileage limits, agreed value coverage, although indoor storage is required.

I've never had a problem insuring my Cuda and Charger for agreed value, with no mileage limits, as long as they are not being parked on the street.  $75k on the Cuda, $50k on the Charger.

I'm with Grundy---same deal.  Unlimited mileage, agreed/appraised/stated value, and it must be kept indoors.

I have found unlimited mileage insurance; but if I take it to South Beach and someone snags it from the Valet while I am having dinner the car is not covered.  The Viper on the other hand is covered.  I would like full coverage insurance for the muscle car that would allow me to do what I want with it.  If you find a company let me know.

I want a Viper someday but I won`t sell my `cuda to buy it.I might restore and sell a few other Mopars I have to get some money saved up then I`ll have a nice e-body and a Viper!
