I have a TCI and I will say that it is below par.  I guess mine was made on a Monday or Friday?  Leaked fluid first time I installed it, replaced the front pump seal twice and the rear tailshaft seal once.  Unfortunately I'll have to stick with this piece of junk until something happens or I can get a good rebuild on it for under $500.  Perhaps this winters project

CRT is good, as well as A and A trans.  John gets much of his hardware components from A and A trans. 

I do rebuild on the side also, but I will not try to promote my wares here since tactrans is a well respected member on this board.  I have built a trans that has lasted 7 years of abuse behind a 3850lb 71 Charger running 12.17's.  I didnt use a special rebuild kit, and all I had was a shift kit. 

727's are very strong up to 500hp applications.  Up until that hp rating, it is suggested (I suggest too) to put in such components as bolt-in sprag as a minimum for safety measures.  After 500hp its mandatory in my opinion or you run the risk of blowing your leg off.

And to answer your initial question, I prefer my own transmissions.

John Vinson at JVX http://jvxracing.com/ is very good also. I have talked to him many times and we are definitely on the same page. He sells the forward pattern manual (low band apply) valve body that I highly recommend. If you use a low band apply valve body you do not  need a bolt in sprag.

thats a true statement on the low band apply.  I was just stating that a bolt-in sprag would be recommended as a safety precaution.  Though I have not specifically seen a regular sprag come unglued, I have heard about sprag failures with low band apply valve bodies.  The likelihood of it happening is not really that high, I grant you that, but I would rather have the added insurance of knowing that it is there to protect me than not.

 I have a 73 Cuda and I am currently having my 440 engine rebuilt. The car does not have a tranny so I am in the market for one. No driveshafts , yes on tranny mounts. Mancini Racing has a nice cut to fit driveshaft kit.
